Is there anywhere in ED I can get chocs which are a bit of a step up from the stuff they sell in supermarkets? I'm not looking for massively expensive ones, just something which doesn't look like I've been a total cheapskate (as if :)) )

It's times like this I miss Hope and Greenwood. Dog biscuits just wouldn't do.

To be fair, supermarkets sell stuff that isn't just all Cadburys and even Lindt. They're lots of expensive chocolates in those stores now from different companies. I have been known to make my own so as you're looking to spend lots of money on them I am happy to help you part with your money....

Depends on the supermarket? The Co-op hasn't got the kind of thing I'm looking for, and I don't recall Sainsbury's having anything much, not that I'm usually looking for chocs in Sainsbury.

Sorry, not looking to spend lots of money :)) just want something that doesn't look like it's bought from a service station :))

But I can't tell what sort of price Melange's are, as their website isn't exactly bursting with info .....

Not ED, I know, but you could hop on a bus to Walworth Rd. (or Brixton) and head to M & S. I think some of the chocs there might fit the bill. :)

Ta!

Sue,

Melange is reasonably priced for artisan chocolates. Think it's about a pound a truffle. I was always happy buying from there for pressies (including pressies to myself!) and there's lots of delicious chocolate to nibble as they wrap your box. Lovely owner too.

Oh dear.

How are the mighty fallen :)

Sue

If you find yourself in the west end, give Selfridges a visit. They have a chocolate library. A large wall full of wonderful chocolate bars from all over the world, there must be 200+ bars of varying prices. I'm a bit of a chocolate fiend and some of the stuff i've had from there is far and away the best i've ever had.

Most of the bars have eco policies and fair trade policies too.

I went to Melange this afternoon, only to find that sadly they had nothing in boxes, only chocolate bars in cellophane bags, which was not quite what I was after, nice though I'm sure they are.

They said that they did not do truffles after Easter because nobody wanted them ?!?!?! but would be starting them again in a week or so (too late for me).

Since time was getting short, I have ended up with two middle-of-the-road boxes from Sainsbury's, not what I was after at all, will have to wrap them prettily and hope the recipients don't notice they are Thorntons and Green & Black's :(

Hi

I would also recommend Melange.

The lady who runs it is wonderful and will take her time to explain to you.

She also runs a chocolate museum in Brixton.

Also Rococo are based in West Dulwich.

No I haven't got truffles. I only mentioned them because apparently that is what Melange do (except after Easter), that and chocolate bars.

What I wanted was something in a nice box, not a cellophane bag.

If the chocolate bars from Melange had been in a box, I would have bought them :)

    • There's quite a difference between going for a run around the footpaths and trying to sit quietly for an afternoon in a wide, grassy area and enjoying the peace & nature. The other two grassy areas in the park are used for sports, and both had barriered trackway running through them. The Parkrun had to be cancelled for at least three weeks, iirc. I'm concerned by your continued reference to "the rye" - the event is held in the park, not on the rye (common). There is a big difference, despite the organisers and council artificially amalgamating the whole area when trying to convince everyone that it's only a small area that is closed off. The railings & gates enclosing the park are a big clue...
    • So have you cancelled your contract with InPost / Yodel now? If so, that's probably caused hundreds of parcels to be stuck in limbo, as they've said to me before that they can't redirect them to a different store. I have a parcel that was refused by you twice, the last time on 5/12, and since then there's been no updates, despite me calling them 3 times. They just say it's being investigated, but if they now can't physically deliver to you then that is obviously the issue. So much for shopping for Christmas presents early, looks like I'll never get them now.
    • I thought I noticed the shop being redecorated the other day when I passed. Also the old Romeo Jones had some works going on, I think
