Sue
Is there anywhere in ED I can get chocs which are a bit of a step up from the stuff they sell in supermarkets? I'm not looking for massively expensive ones, just something which doesn't look like I've been a total cheapskate (as if :)) )It's times like this I miss Hope and Greenwood. Dog biscuits just wouldn't do. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101735-where-can-i-get-nice-chocs-in-ed/ Share on other sites

PeckhamRose
To be fair, supermarkets sell stuff that isn't just all Cadburys and even Lindt. They're lots of expensive chocolates in those stores now from different companies. I have been known to make my own so as you're looking to spend lots of money on them I am happy to help you part with your money.... The Co-op hasn't got the kind of thing I'm looking for, and I don't recall Sainsbury's having anything much, not that I'm usually looking for chocs in Sainsbury.Sorry, not looking to spend lots of money :)) just want something that doesn't look like it's bought from a service station :))But I can't tell what sort of price Melange's are, as their website isn't exactly bursting with info ..... I think some of the chocs there might fit the bill. :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101735-where-can-i-get-nice-chocs-in-ed/#findComment-984823 Share on other sites

Bellenden Belle
Sue,Melange is reasonably priced for artisan chocolates. Think it's about a pound a truffle. I was always happy buying from there for pressies (including pressies to myself!) and there's lots of delicious chocolate to nibble as they wrap your box. Lovely owner too. Peckhampoet
there are some Hope and Greenwood truffles on sale in one of the pound shops in Peckham. Naturally I can't divulge which one or they will all be gone but it does make me smile to see them there! Jeremy
H&G in the pound shop in Peckham! haha.(I don't think H&G need to worry though, last time I checked their stuff was being stocked everywhere from Sainsbury's to Selfridges to Tokyo airport) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101735-where-can-i-get-nice-chocs-in-ed/#findComment-985360 Share on other sites

titch juicy
SueIf you find yourself in the west end, give Selfridges a visit. They have a chocolate library. A large wall full of wonderful chocolate bars from all over the world, there must be 200+ bars of varying prices. I'm a bit of a chocolate fiend and some of the stuff i've had from there is far and away the best i've ever had. Most of the bars have eco policies and fair trade policies too.https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=selfridges+chocolate+library&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjt-vT3go7MAhWH2hoKHdx1Cd8QsAQILA&biw=1278&bih=665#imgrc=BVHV0oW7n-DL2M%3A Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101735-where-can-i-get-nice-chocs-in-ed/#findComment-985828 Share on other sites
Sue
I went to Melange this afternoon, only to find that sadly they had nothing in boxes, only chocolate bars in cellophane bags, which was not quite what I was after, nice though I'm sure they are. They said that they did not do truffles after Easter because nobody wanted them ?!?!?! but would be starting them again in a week or so (too late for me).Since time was getting short, I have ended up with two middle-of-the-road boxes from Sainsbury's, not what I was after at all, will have to wrap them prettily and hope the recipients don't notice they are Thorntons and Green & Black's :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101735-where-can-i-get-nice-chocs-in-ed/#findComment-985962 Share on other sites

Dodo1
HiI would also recommend Melange. The lady who runs it is wonderful and will take her time to explain to you.She also runs a chocolate museum in Brixton. Also Rococo are based in West Dulwich.-------------------------------------------------------> I went to Melange this afternoon, only to find> that sadly they had nothing in boxes, only> chocolate bars in cellophane bags, which was not> quite what I was after, nice though I'm sure they> are.> > They said that they did not do truffles after> Easter because nobody wanted them ?!?!?! but would> be starting them again in a week or so (too late> for me).> > Since time was getting short, I have ended up> with two middle-of-the-road boxes from> Sainsbury's, not what I was after at all, will> have to wrap them prettily and hope the recipients> don't notice they are Thorntons and Green &> Black's :( Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101735-where-can-i-get-nice-chocs-in-ed/#findComment-986236 Share on other sites
Sue
I'm sure Melange are wonderful, but as I said, they had no truffles and only chocolate bars in cellophane bags, which unfortunately were not suitable for what I needed. Jeremy
IMO a few bars from a nice chocolate shop makes a nicer gift than truffles from the supermarket... but if you already had your mind set on truffles then fair enough. I only mentioned them because apparently that is what Melange do (except after Easter), that and chocolate bars. What I wanted was something in a nice box, not a cellophane bag.If the chocolate bars from Melange had been in a box, I would have bought them :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/101735-where-can-i-get-nice-chocs-in-ed/#findComment-986417 Share on other sites
dirac
on a side note, Melange does really really nice hot chocolate. So thick you could probably stand a spoon up in it.
