Huggers
For the past few months I have been intrigued by the appearance of a small brook running along the west side of Peckham Rye Park, SE22 side. It seems to have emerged from a ditch and begins in a large puddle around a tree near that big house (the elms?). I remember someone recently posted about the area's forgotten and imprisoned rivers. Could this be one of them? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10327-has-the-river-peck-escaped-her-bonds/ Share on other sites
copleston_charlie
That is indeed the location of the semi-mythical 'River Peck'.http://londonist.com/2009/01/lost_rivers_from_above_the_peck.php Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10327-has-the-river-peck-escaped-her-bonds/#findComment-304514 Share on other sites
Ted Max
The info boards in the park claim that the Peck runs overground - I presume in the corner near the swings, and then along the bottom near the loos, past the cafe etcCan it also run, then, in the opposite corner, where The Elms is? Peckhamgatecrasher
Well fancy that. I've just returned from a 2 hour walk along Brenchley Gardens and Honor Oak park. Ashamed to say I've never visited it before - what fantastic views of the West End and City. Not surprised to see a beacon up there. And I have indulged myself nearly everyday for the last couple of months, by paddling through the Peck in the park. The Minkey
Yes, great views from up there. Brenchley Gardens is a great spot to watch the New Year fireworks over the river, for those, such as myself, who don't fancy the schlep into town and back.
