From a glossy flyer, courtesy of The Herne:

They're going to be doing (amongst other things) 'Screen in the garden': showing classic movies outside during summer and serving 'film food' to the viewers.

Any thoughts? I imagine opinion will divide along the usual battle-lines of old ED v new ED etc etc

This important and up-to-the minute information has been brought to you thanks to the magic of "working from home", ie being immediately distracted the instant anything drops through the letterbox. Possibly followed by half an hour of Jeremy Kyle on the goggle-box

Cheers for the info *Bob* - sounds like it could be great fun. Having watched some films outdoors at Somerset House a few years back it seems have a very different effect on the audience. People tend to be more vocal whilst watching

Any of the films named?

No programme of films as of yet - 'classic movies' is all that it says. Though due to the proximity of residential housing to the boundary of The Herne I'm guessing 'Pulp Fiction' is off the agenda.

Other stuff they're doing: a couple of beer festivals; Punch & Judy (good, clean, wifebeating fun for all the family), Village Fete and Pig Roast.

First few scenes of Mona Lisa.

Oh, and I was watching a film called "Last Orders" the other night (Michael Cane, Ray Winstone and Bob Hoskins), and I've-met-Jimmy pointed out that the pub is the Wishing Well on Bellenden, and you see various bits of the area.

Can't think of any comedy ones right now jim_the_chin, but E.D. is genius in it's simplicity! >:D<

And, if I'm not very much mistaken, BIggs went there some time after the actual event.

I use to walk past that every morning on my way to Peckan Pie rail station. One morning I walked past, and suddenly noticed, while in the middle of it that the pub had changed colour, and that there was a MK1 Escort and Vauxhall Viva parked in the road. Felt like I had walked through a time portal. All the trucks etc were parked up the side of the Peckam Exp. so wasn't obvious I was on a film set.

yes, I remember them filming last orders - we got all excited when the local junk shop in bellenden rd (now either lucias and richards or the dog parlour) looked like it was turning into an organic butchers!! then we found out it was just a film set......

normal service was soon resumed and all us incomers (been here 12 yrs now) all deflated

In a small row of grungy shops on the junction of Peckham Rye and St Aidans road at the south end of Peckham Rye park (where Peckham Rye becomes Forest Hill Road). Less than a 1 mile from your new flat in the Gardens. Well worth a visit - good beer, good food, friendly service.

Hi.

Glad to see that our plans for The Herne film screenings have met with such a positive reaction on the ED Forum.

Nothing is set in stone yet but we do plan to show films probably in our newly refurbished barn area in the garden at The Herne. We are looking to do this in conjunction with a local film society and would also like to become envolved with the Stella Artois film season. Another option would be to have mother and child screenings during the week.

We are looking at all the practicalities and options and of course looking to minimise any nuisance to our close neigbours.

If anyone has any suggestions or if there are any film societies who may be interested in using the facility please email me at [email protected]

Thanks for the support,

Will

Jacques Tati? Hang on a moment, let me just google that ;-)

I'm sure whoever we get in to run the nights will be far more educated in the world of cinema than me. But if you want to be kept up to date with what is happening on the film front at The Herne, we do have a mailing list. I don't want to promote too heavily because that's not what these boards are about. But feel free to check our websites for more info.

>>Can we see that one where Catherine Deneuve plays a bored housewife (read ED yummy mummy) who goes on the game to >>>see how the other half lives? Belle de Jour I think it was...

>:D< I have that and several other of Ms Deneuve's works on DVD but would certainly welcome the chance to see her on the big screen yet again!

    • Hi, The seller has already been restricted from making posts on the forum (including in the For Sale board) straight after you initially reported this. They do however still have access to their private messages so that they can contact you. If its clear that they have no intention of resolving then they will be permanently banned.   I would recommend making contact with the company as you will require evidence that the item is stolen if you plan to report this to the police. If so there is useful information on the Citizen's Advice website: https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/consumer/somethings-gone-wrong-with-a-purchase/if-you-think-youve-bought-stolen-goods
    • That's like the cartoon of the person who goes to IKEA for tea lights, comes out laden with stuff and says "Damn, I forgot the tea lights"  😂
    • Have you tried contacting the company the laptop belongs to? I expect they would be interested.....
    • Last week I bought a Galaxy Chromebook Go on this forum, the seller was not home when I went to pick it up, I texted him and he found an excuse apologized and said he could deliver,  I accepted and later that evening he delivered the item in the original box ... all seemed ok until my son (it was supposed to be a present for him) opened it and tried to log in his google account, to our surprise it stated that the laptop was property of a company and could not be used without authorization. We tried to contact the seller, and he initially provided some excuses, but after his initial responses, he stopped replying to our messages. I informed EDForum but no action has been taken as the seller is still present on the forum... I am very disappointed
