kpc
Only people to blame for such a poor performance are the players. Think Rooney should apologise asap. Keef
So the paying fans should not be able to voice their opinion? Just can't agree with you Anna. These players are very well paid, and live like kings for being good at a game. When they play like they did last night, they need to hear that it's not good enough. Narnia
Can't agree with you Keef. Do you think the players wanted to play badly or that booing them is actually going to help in any way? They know it wasn't good enough. Booing them is a reflection of the tabloid type society that exists in this country. When they win they are potentially the best in the world. After last night I've heard suggestions that Capello should be sacked before the last group game and good old Arry brought in as he can speak English (?) and obviously Capello can't. I'm not suggesting this type of mentality doesn't exist in other countries but putting more pressure on your team can't possibly help IMO. I remember how crap the group games were in 1990 as they included my country Ireland. England could have won that WC. It's not over yet. Mick Mac
.Im not sure i have ever fallen asleep during a football match before last night. Highlight of the night were the replays of fabio. Thought they were very amusing. He was not a happy bunny. Keef
I'm ceetainly not calling for anyone's head, I'm just saying that if I'd spent a fortune to be there last night, I'd have wanted the players to know what I thought AFTER the final whistle. kpc
if I'd spent a fortune to be there last night, I'd have wanted the players to turn up too. It looked like a case of the players not wanting to play, which happens from time to time. Annasfield
So you'd boo them to inspire them for the next game? I watched some pretty dire football for much of last season and spent a fair wedge doing so. Every match I clapped my team off the pitch. I wouldn't contemplate anything else. Keef
Why should they be above critisism?Last night wasn't a poor performance, it was absolutely f**king shite! Rooney was moaning, but he was amongst the worst of them.As I said before, the crowd was trying to lift them, singing the anthem, and trying to get behind them, but after 90 minutes of that, you can't call someone a moron for venting a bit. If a boo hurts their feelings that much, they need to bloody well grow up. Brendan
It is perfectly acceptable to boo in the event of bad behaviour, unsportsmanlike conduct, bad attitude etc. It isn?t really very good form to boo someone just because they aren?t very good. You can boo your own team or the other you don?t owe them some sort of unquestioning loyalty just because they are your team. This is sport after all not some sort of quasi-religious fundamentalist cult demanding slavish observance. Oh wait sorry. Never mind. kpc
Professional footballers should not be taking the reaction of fans as their inspiration for the next game. They are not that precious that they should but above criticism and I think fans have every right to express their disappointment at a sub-standard performance such as last night's. I cannot understand the idea of blind loyalty, that support of a team should be unconditional. And for the record, I have never booed my own team or left a game early, even though I have been given good cause on many occasions over the years. But I will not always applaud them off the pitch either. ????
Anna...you (I mean Liverpool) and the Mancs have a slightly, uber-fan condenscending 'never boo the team' attitude..... big deal when you've both buckets of trophies won on a frequent basis. I have frequently booed West Ham including during games and at least I've actually seen us win something, I've got mates who can't remember us win a trophy of any sort. If someone doesn't wear the shirt with pride or the managers makes a crap decision he's getting booed, we put up with crap and disapointment year in year out and a lack of effort is unforgiveable (not a lack of class, they can't help that). I've seen us massacred and supported to the hilt if the players try and earn their graft. I swore and shouted at the TV and Rooney last night and would have done both if I was out there plus booed. Try and support teams that win f*ck all year in year out without booing a lack of effort. England were diabolical against an average team and people who have sacrificed loads to get there deserve more than scared, useless, poor technique from millionairres and a ?6 million a year manager. They certainly don't deserve a blokes whose been a millionairre since he's 16 telling them how to support his pretty useless efforts....World class??? The jury's out. The only World Class thing about England in the last 3 world cups has been our support. Sharon_H
I just think that booing would be counter productive, they know that they were shite, they most probably feel shite. There's no excuse for it, let's wait 'til Wednesday. Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Anna...you (I mean Liverpool) and the Mancs have a> slightly, uber-fan condenscending 'never boo the> team' attitude..... big deal when you've both> buckets of trophies won on a frequent basis.By "the Mancs" I assume you mean the Salford lot?I've booed City as they've gone off with displays taking us down to the 3rd flight, but only for lack of effort or application. That was the problem last night, they didn't look bothered, Rooney especially. If fans aren't supposed to boo how do we suppose they express their disapproval? "Rah rah chaps, better luck next time!" ain't gonna cut it. And Rooney's comments going off kinda show how separated he, of all people, have got from the fans. The fans there have I imagine saved and scrimped and spent a significant percentage of their annual income to be there, I'd have booed them off.Having said that I'm glad he did say something, it was the most spirit anyone showed all night; that fact it's been PR'd and apologised out of the way is a good example of the corporate blandness we now seem to accept as normal. Get angry Rooney, tell them to feck off, and get in there next time. mockney piers
What keef and quids said.Don't boo?!? several months of savings to watch a lacklustre performance because the overpaid self-absorbed shagsacks have a 'brittle' relationship with their manager!? Do me a favour. First up against the wall if you ask me never mind the booing. Cunts. Don't boo. Laugh I nearly paid my licence fee or something. But let's face it, core of the team are the same wankers who haven't produced for 8 years. And we are surprised?!?In Portugal thy thought they had a god given right to win it, but we could all see they did nothing but lazy average football that would win nothing. Nowt has changed, plus ca change etc. Don't boo?!?!? I've been begging for this not to happen for 4 years and lo........Go on N Korea!!!!! ????
It's not often I agree with Joey Barton but as he said a few yaers back referring to Lampard and Gerrard. "England did nothing in the World Cup, so why are the players bringing books out? 'We got beat in the quarter-finals, we played like sh*t, here's my book'. Who wants to read that? I don't.I like the Premiership but I think many players in England who are considered 'brilliant' would not cut the mustard in Italy or Spain and the fact that there's so much money in our league has been a very lucky break for many of our good but not world class players who are in fact not nearly as good as they seem to reckon.I'm quite happy booing overated millionairres Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10655-the-official-2010-world-cup-thread/page/14/#findComment-333779 Share on other sites
