RosieH
A friend is coming to stay with me the weekend after next - she's going through a painful separation that has also left her skint. We were originally going to go for a weekend away but her straitened financial circumstances have put paid to that.I want to treat her to a weekend of girlie fun and am happy to pick up the tab, but because I'm paying for two, am looking for cost-effective (not cheap!) suggestions. To be honest, she'd probably be happy sinking a few bottles and snogging someone inappropriate at Liquorish, but I'd like to do something special for herAny brilliant ideas (or knowledge of amazing deals on spa packages / day trips to Paris)? Or, you know, offers of inappropriate snogs. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10733-a-weekend-of-loveliness-for-the-ladies/ Share on other sites
emc
I know how your friend feels! My best friend and I went to Greenwoods Hotel and Spa in Stock, Essex, (takes us just over an hour from ED) which is a hotel with a spa attached who do some fab deals on a Sat night (dinner, bed and breakfast, with a treatment thrown in, under ?100 each)It's a nice hotel (not super posh but does the job) and we get there, have nice lunch in lounge on big sofas, read papers, swim, have treatments, chat and have a nice dinner. It always makes me feel better but know it gets booked up quick (as cheap for a spa weekend) so check it out as soon as you can. legalbeagle
You could keep the cost down by staying local but doing nice things for the day? Spend the day at Therapy on Melbourne Grove having lots of lovely treatments (they did lots of different day packages when last I checked), then go to Green & Blue for lovely champagne and nibbles, (yes I know, I would say that since it's my bar! I'll make sure all the staff are under special instructions to flirt with your friend if it helps!) Then pop into Liquorish for the inappropriate snogs at the end of the evening (I had no idea that was on offer there! Hmmmm......) Would still be a lovely girlie day but perhaps not as expensive as a hotel? Marmora Man
Just a suggestion:1. Out for drinks Lordship Lane (Green & Blue champagne as suggested perhaps) on Friday.2. Queue early for tickets to see London Assurance at the National Theatre that night (?10 a ticket but queues start at about 7.00am). It's a light, foolish, funny and very well acted restoration comedy on foibles of men and marriage.3. Dinner afterwards at the Archduke4. Get up early, again, on Sunday for breakfast, shopping and flowers at Columbia Street Market. Aim to be there before 9.00am for best flowers and street scenes5. Rest Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/10733-a-weekend-of-loveliness-for-the-ladies/#findComment-312634 Share on other sites

Mick Mac
good point declan. I suggest rosie watches closely on friday night too to see he tiger makes it. If he does not make the cut them the boring theatre it will have to be. Unless young Rory is in contention of course in which case its not to be missed viewing for rosie and her buddy. RosieH
Thanks all, some very good ideas indeed (except Mick who is very very lucky to have found a woman to love him in spite of his understanding them so very very little)Am I right in thinking G&B does bottle shop champagne on Friday nights? I saw a sign but it could have been a one-off. Actually, would it be gauche to buy champagne for a friend who is in the throes of splitting up? Actually, perhaps I should be toasting her new-found freedom... Kells
My sis and I have just come back from Whittlebury Hall - it's a spa near Towcester. You can use the spa on the day of arrival (we got there about 10.30ish), book treatments if you like, and dinner is included in the price. It's an overnight stay and check out the next morning. Definitely recommended, and only cost ?75 each.
