Open Mic Mondays at The Cherry Tree

Recommended Posts

I'm a punter, with no connection to the pub, so hope it's alright to post in this section.

The event is already mentioned by the pub in the What's On section, but I thought people might want to talk about it here as well.

They are trying to establish it every Monday, from seven, and it's on tonight. It's free and everyone who performs gets a free drink too!

I've been to the first two, and would love something like this to get established in East Dulwich. It's been people singing with guitars, but they also welcome spoken word, which is what I do.

I n=know these things take a while to get established, and I hope this one does.

If it works I think it will be the only one in East Dulwich.

Does anyone know of any more, locally-(ish)? I know there's a Tuesday nighter in Gipsy Hill, but not been to that before.

I think they tried this at the Rose.. Forest Hill Rd. before it finally closed down..

Why can't pubs just stick to selling decent Beer , Wine and good food...

Which the Cherry Tree seems to already been doing..

Sodding Quizzes and Open Mike nights do not appeal to the majority of folk..

They give the impression of a failing business. Well to me they do..

Monday is probably a bad choice for open mike..

Sounds a good idea to me.

Will come along soon and maybe drag out a cover.

DF - that's a darn negative post, I think you should get up and do a spot at the open mic as punishment. One of your spoken word monologues - you could recite 'the best of Foxy on East Dulwich Forum', backwards, in Serbo-Croat, whilst drinking a glass of milk through one nostril !!

(And Monday is a common day for open mic cos it don't impact the weekend business / punters)

Whilst I can't complain where this message is...I did post it in the general section because I wanted to bring the event to the wider attention of people who look on this forum, might be interested, but only have time to look at the 'general' page.

It's somewhat hidden tucked away on this page. I didn't post it as the person behind the night...just as someone who wanted it to do well...

What you mean is that you don't like them so they shouldn't happen. I personally quite like a quiz and some live music in a pub.

Hi Inbetweener, have you seen my post for the Dulwich Jam? This is a well established and amazing community gathering.

We mix professional and amateur musicians, singers, poets on the first Wednesday of every month. Either in a solo spot or with a/our band behind them. We have spoken word artists, some have now put their lyrics to music with the help of our house musicians. we pride ourselves on being the friendliest open mic on the circuit, as everyone wants to encourage others to showcase their talents. Absolutely no ego trips allowed!

A meal is available and the beer is much cheaper than pubs ?3:50 a pint

Entry is free, feel free to bring your mates and check us out.

The next one is next Wednesday 1st June 8pm

Southwark Sports Bowls & Social

The Clubhouse, 37 Dulwich Common (next to Dulwich Riding School) SE21 7EU

    • I would suggest that anyone accidentally driving into the square is not paying due care and attention. If you disagree, I would be interested in what you consider a basic level of competence behind the wheel. Are you a member or a ‘subscriber’? Is there a difference. Does anyone know?  Who is alleging there has been pressure put on the emergency services (not you, you’re just neutrally posting ‘updates’ 😂). It is all very transparent and accountable isn’t it 🤣
    • Yes, but as I have said before I have nothing to do with their organisation (other than subscribing to their updates which I then post on here). Sorry to disappoint you. I await your answers....
    • Hold on a minute, aren’t you the one posting regular updates from ‘One Dulwich’?
    • No idea. Ask One Dulwich   No. There are two seperate issues. I believe some cover their plates deliberately (delivery drivers etc) and a number are confused by signage. I spend a lot of time in that area and have only ever seen one car drive through and it was an elderly couple who were incredibly confused (and subsequently very apologetic to an angry cyclist who was calling them all the names under the sun).   Some questions for you to answer now: 1) Which consultation are you referring to? 2) Did you agree with the council's insistence on keeping the junction closed to emergency vehicles despite the emergency services telling them it was delaying response times?   3) At a time of funding crisis do you think £1.5m is a good spend to redesign a junction and those redesigns: - potentially increase emergency vehicle response times - do nothing to stop persistent number plate covering offenders - do nothing to slow cyclists at a pedestrian area
