Best advice I could give coming home is agree with your boss to start earlier and leave earlier and get the 17.11 train from LB. It's the only one not overcrowded and doesn't have that horrendous 13 min wait at S Bermondsey. Also is consistently on time. Apart from this eve when it was cancelled. In which case get train to FH and 185 or 176 back it is often much faster...

Within 28 days. Claim from the Southern website and put in your Oystercard number (on the back of the card).

Probably a delayed train that's been diverted; if it stops at every additional station that takes an extra 3 minutes; so adding North Dulwich, East Dulwich, Peckham Rye, Queens's Road and South Bermondsey would add 15 minutes.

Sounds trivial but the turnarounds are so tight at London Bridge (~10 minutes) that would mean the next outgoing service being cancelled).

That makes complete sense. I mean it's annoying that we're in this position, but it's logical.

A new low point today - waiting for a Sevenoaks train from Blackfriars - due in 1 minute - then changed status to "cancelled". But we could see it outside the station waiting to arrive. It pulled into the station, disgorged all passengers, shut doors and then left empty and out of service. The staff had no idea why (and took a lot of flak from everyone stranded there). Their best guess was that the driver wasn't able to continue with the route. No announcement as to the fact of the cancellation or why. It is an absolute joke.
Anyone know if the 17:30 train from London bridge to East dulwich has been running everyday? I was under the assumption that it was removed under new timetable, i was just about to put in my claim against that time but it seems on recenttraintimes that it has been running! Not sure which evening train I can claim on now

What time was that? I was getting the 1734 one which was relatively empty, and had hardly anyone on the platform waiting for it...Did everyone end up getting another one?

Yesterday was a good train day: the 0810 from peckham to blackfriars was empty, air conditioned and I got a seat?!?!?! And the return was equally ok.

So looking at revised timetable there is no train in evening that you can claim against, as you aren't waiting for more than 30 mins. Can you claim if a train is cancelled even if there is one 20 mins later? For instance 18.30 is cancelled but there is one at 18.51

Another timetable question....the journey planner for tomorrow says the 8.51 from ED is running - has that been the case for the last few weeks? There are also seems to be two 9.16 (not sure how that is possible with only one platform), a 9.19 and a 9.30.

Thanks

The 30 minutes point is a bit of a con IMO. If your train is cancelled, your train is cancelled. The fact that an entirely different train might be leaving on time within 30 minutes should be neither here nor there - particularly given 9 out of 10 times the later trains are being delayed or cancelled too.

I had an argument about this with a Southern operative who in the end conceded that a train that is cancelled is by definition more than 30 minutes late, but have given up claiming dosh back these days.

Ooh I'd also be interested to hear about the 8.51 if that ran today? It took me 3 buses to get to work today as there was a 17 minute wait between no. 40 buses. Grrrr.

Unfortunately, the delay repay scheme does not exist to provide compensation for cancelled trains. It's there to compensate passengers who arrive at their destination severely late. That's why they won't pay out compensation if there is another train which can get you to your destination within 30 minutes of the scheduled arrival time. Of course, if that later train is delayed then you may well be eligible for compensation because of the earlier cancellation, but just because a particular train is cancelled there's no automatic entitlement to compensation.

Please don't give up claiming the money. It's the only thing which the TOCs care about.

The Department for Transport gives GTR ?8.9 billion over 7 years and in return receives all revenue. In other words, there is virtually no incentive for GTR to run a decent service as they get to empty taxpayers pockets regardless of whether anyone actually uses their trains.

Hi rahrahrah,

That's how TfL manage London Overground and it seems to work really well.

GTR management with the help of the RMT union, supported by the DfT seem to have all forgotten rail services are meant to be a service for the convenience of passengers.

    • @Sephiroth I agree and since most affordable courier companies now expect you to stay in for at least half a day for a delivery and even then have weasel-worded T&Cs that outline that half day 'window' as an aim not a guarantee, making it is moveable delivery 'feast', it is no wonder parcels go missing.
    • People don’t go out of their way to leave  their valuables out on the porch  they are most likely at work when a delivery company decides on their behalf to just leave it on the doorstep.  They are the problem not “people being surprised when their items disappear”
    • Yes, Direct Line automatically rejected it when I tried to get a quote. Insurers really are a nightmare, and they have a huge psychological impact on buyers. When you’re about to put £1m into a pile of bricks, and the insurance companies either refuse to insure it or quote an outrageous premium, of course it’s going to scare anyone. I’m not actually worried about subsidence in this house main building , but the bay window has definitely been affected by that tree, and the council won’t remove it. When the movement continues, rebuilding the bay window would cost at least £40k. The seller will never admit this, but there are already houses on that street where the bay windows have had to be rebuilt. If not East Dulwich, I’m now looking towards the west. There are a lot of subsidence issues with properties in Forest Hill, and Bromley and West Wickham aren’t really for me. I’m not interested in any part of Dulwich except ED, ND and Dulwich Village — and obviously ED offers the best value.
    • Not sure what you are looking for, but my suggestion would be around Forest Hill, certain parts of Bromley and West Wickham  Telegraph Hill. All nice areas- safe and you get more for your money. Really depends on how you travel, or don’t.. as inn needing good transport links to City. Like I said, feel free to pm me.. abit difficult to advise if not sure what you are after, but pretty sure not a flat!  oh, West Dulwich and Herne Hill area.
