hi can anyone tell me about the process of applying to infants school.

I thought you had to apply the spring before they have to start. So if they were to start this sept you would apply now in april.

someone told me that its a year ahead so if it was next september you would apply now

then someone else said yesterday that you can put their names down now.

does anyone know which one it is?

luckily our little ones birthday is in the nov so she wont start until she is nearly 5 so loads of time to sort it out but was just wondering which one was true.

thanks

For a child starting school in either Sept 2010 or Jan 2011 (any child born 01/09/05 - 31/08/06) you had to apply by end of January 2010

I guess for a child starting in Sept 2011 or Jan 2012 (any child born 01/09/06 - 31/08/07) you will need to apply by Jan 2011

Does that make sense??!

Yes. Btw, the govt has recommended from Sept 2011 a single point of entry (ie no Jan intake)

I haven't seen anything about whether Southwark is complying with this

thats great thanks everyone she will be 3 in nov so guess I will have to apply autumn next year(2011) for her to start the following sept(2012) as will be too young to start next autunm as she will only be 3 3/4 next sept. thanks was just worried when someone said she should be down already.

Can i jump in and ask a question too (sorry Ludoscotts)

but if you were wanting your little one to go to a school nursery, when would you expect them to get a place.

My son will be 3 on the 1st of October, should he get in in the January 2011 intake?

More likely Sept 2011. But you apply to the school when they are two, and they can take any three year old off the list (in age order) if a place comes up

Dan my understanding is that it's the term after they turn 3 so in your case yes, however they may not get in that intake in which case he may be offered a place in the Sept intake.

My son is a March baby. We didn't get into the Sept intake but got offered a place in the following January

hi thanks everyone, she has been down for nursery since she was 2 but thought maybe I should have done school too, all clear now,

dan if you cant get into a school for nursery try dulwich village preschool. you have to pay before they are 3 but its about ?190 per term. and its exactly like being in a school nursery, then next best thing.

We are sending our little one in sept as I dont like the idea of going from being with me to 5 days/sessions a week think it would be a huge shock for her so sending her for 1 term for 2 days a week. Hope fully she will then get a place from jan for a school based nursery as she will then be 3 but if not we will keep her on at the pre-school. It was lovely and I dont think they are full at the min as my friend has just managed to swap days around which they couldnt do if it was full.

    • Wow, well served with local supermarkets then…  Agree with ATM.. good c position to been mugged or cloned card - prob why not been considered before. Wasn’t there one outside post office and still  is2where people were abit nervous of using? Hope I am wrong but won’t see me rushing to use it…sure lots of folk will benefit thou. Not a great fan or user of Iceland but when it closed years ago people complained..  Guess they only b look at bigger sites - can’t recall an express one but a pity to those who frequent the store. Strange that Tesco can use it as local but Iceland can’t - guess it is  power of large supermarkets. Personally would have  loved an Aldi or Lidl but  clearly site to small. Only grocery stores left to come are Waitrose, Aldi, Lidl…
    • I'm paying £31 pcm for full fibre 300, whatever that is. I'm not sure it's a particularly good deal now, but I did a comparison at the time I went onto it, and it was then. I don't have a landline any more, and my mobile is with iD, who piggyback off 3. I don't usually have any problems,  except once a few years back when the whole 3  network (?) went  down for quite a long time.
    • I have Plusnet too.   I recently (August) had some problems with WiFi connection on different days but and the turning off and turning on didn’t work.  The WiFi didn’t work for quite a few hours - overnight in one case but eventually rectified itself.   Would be interested to know how much other people pay for Plusnet. I also have a landline with them as the mobile signal is bad inside house.  That is with EE and I want to change from them to another provider.
