I was in Warwick gardens this afternoon and saw a goods train heading in towards Peckham Rye station. I know this line isn't the one nearest to Copleston, but is still near enough to Choumert/Chadwick and surrounding roads. Didn't notice if it made a noise though!

I've regularly seen goods trains on the tracks - they run right across London on most lines.

Anyway, back to the issue. I think there's been a slight improvement in noise, but that possibly could be down to the fact it's winter and my windows are generally shut at night. It's definitely an issue that still needs looking at though - possibly not quite as annoying as the early morning flights which seem to be starting around 4am and getting more frequent.

To clarify - We are talking about the ED-Peckham Rye line? The bend to the rear of Quorn Road/Ivanhoe/Copleston? This is a passenger line - I have lived here long enough to have noticed what trains are going passed my windows every few minutes, how often have you seen goods trains running through ED station? You haven't! The Denmark Hill-Peckham Rye-Nunhead etc line is a goods line, that'll be the one that passes Warwick Gardens.

The occasional maintenance train goes by on this line, mostly at night, referred to by us as the 'spy train' due to the fact that it seems to have a flood light on it, this does not have any trucks/carriages (thereby not a goods train as it is not carrying any goods.) These trains don't tend to screech, just make a low 'rumble.'

The screechers are deffo passenger trains, though I'm not sure what differentiates them from the quiet ones as they all look the same to the un-trained eye. As a PP said not sure if there has been an improvement as our windows have been mostly closed, hope so though, some of them were so bad they could drown out conversations! Spring on it's way though, so it won't be long before we're woken by the sounds of angle grinders on the lines at 3 in the morning!

    • Hi Sue, they were not local solicitors. Andrea’s was based in Wales and the other firms involved were large nationwide conveyancing companies (rather than conventional high street solicitors). I’m happy to advise clients and buyers privately on what I believe to be their shortcomings but I don’t think doing so in public on the forum would be appropriate, particularly as they are not locally based. My general advice would always be to steer clear of the big conveyancing companies as they are, in my experience, notoriously difficult to contact when the need arises and the case handler is often not a fully qualified solicitor and so issues have to be referred upwards to “technical teams” internally, which was part of the problem in Andrea’s chain. • A slightly vulnerable but hopeful post… Hi everyone, I’m a guy in my mid-thirties who’s recently moved back to London and East Dulwich (I previously lived here for many years before, so I know the area well). But if I’m honest, I’ve found the return a little tough. Most of my close friends have moved out of London to start families — totally understandable — but it’s left me feeling a bit adrift and not quite sure how to make new connections again. Work has taken up a huge chunk of my life in recent years, and I’ve definitely let hobbies, interests and a proper social life fall by the wayside. I feel like I went from a fun social life in my 20’s to suddenly blinking and realising things had gone a bit er…quiet. So, I’m trying to redress the balance a bit — mainly so myself and my partner don’t murder each other 😂, and just to meet some new local faces. I was wondering: is anyone else in a similar boat? And would there be any interest in starting a relaxed, low-key local social group? Could be a casual pub meet, sports, park hangouts, live comedy nights — open to ideas!  I’m happy to do the organising/admin side of things — just wanted to put it out there and see if there’s any appetite. I’ll gauge interest and take it from there.  If you’d prefer not to reply publicly, feel free to drop me a DM.  Cheers all! 👋
