Buying fruit and veg in season : For iPhone or Ipod Touch users

Thought this might be of interest to the forum, my friend has made this great iPhone application to show you when Fruit and Veg is in season (rather than imported) - also helps to find farmers markets.

The app is currently featured in the app store, but thought it would be relevant to the foody types around here :)

Good idea...I believe we import far too many fruits/vegetables unnecessarily. The cost to the environment is high. E.g. farmers in Egypt buy seed potatoes from Scotland, which are then grown on in the Egyptian desert using copious amounts of precious water drilled from under the Egyptian desert and fertilizers imported from Ireland. The final product is packed and then shipped to the UK. Ridiculous when we have the perfect climate for growing (and storing) potatoes here.

Go to the Peckham Farmer's Market on Sundays down by the Library. There is a lovely farmer from Kent selling her delicious produce.
