Hello everyone,

I'm helping the Refugee Council in Brixton set up a mums and mums-to-be group.

They have some fairly sad toys at the centre and I was hoping to cheer up the collection with some donations.

If you have any pieces you are thinking of giving away, can you let me know?

Big things that can't get lost are probably best, but they could also use some more bouncey chairs for babies.

No soft toys though thanks, they have a few of those already.

Do PM or reply to thread if you can help.

I don't have a car so will be arranging a taxi at some point at the end of May to take them all over - but let me know if you can drop them directly to Brixton!

Thanks all.

Bea

Is this an ongoing need? I don't have anything I can think of right now, but if I knew there would be stuff going every month or so, I could put stuff aside as and when.

If someone with a car was able to help coordinate, we could choose a day every couple of months that people could drop stuff for delivery to the Centre. We could put a notice on the Forum as a reminder, as there always seems to be loads of stuff going for free on here. I don't have a car, or I would offer.

I'm off Adys Road, and the Refugee Council is just by the post office in Brixton (on a side street opposite the tube station just before you get to Brixton). It would be great if you might be able to drop. A friend has also just offered, but it would mean us going with both babies in the back....not leaving much room. Can we find a time convinient for you in a couple of weeks if I've managed to collect a good pile? Where abouts are you?

Bellenden Jo - you're just round the corner I expect from your name...Can you drop them round?

Alieh, - that sounds like a great plan. Though the idea is that we wont give out the toys, they will no doubt get worn out and it would be great to have more at intervals.

A friend has just offered to run a short music session as part of the group and asked that I make a particular request for instruments (drums, bells etc).

I have a bouncy chair that we no longer need that you are welcome to have.

I don't have a car so if someone could collect that would be great. We are near Sainsbury's Dog Kennel Hill. Please PM me to arrange collection if you are interested

Hi All,

Thanks for the messages and PMs.

re: clothes - they've told me this morning that they have a fairly good stock at the moment, but I'll post when that changes.

Mascapone - That would fantastic, Sarah if you are reading this, can you PM her to collect? You can always drop it round to mine until we have a full load.

Aleih, Thanks - they have a stock of tea, coffee and biscuits but i'd really like to be able to provide fruit at the sessions for toddlers, Pm me if you are interested.

In all these great offers, I've only had a couple of actual toy offers, so if anyone else has stuff, do let me know.

At the planning meeting today, we also realised we could use some cushions or throws for the floor. So do get in touch if you have anything like that.

Thanks all again.

I have a bouncy chair you can have if you want another - is a little tatty but still works/safe (otherwise is being colected by council tomorrow so let me know). Am just up hill from Dog Kennel Hill Sainsbury's so wondered if it could be collected at same time as Mascarpone's? Might be able to dig out a few toys too.

Bea,

I have an old(ish) mclaren buggy - happy to part with it. I also have travel cot we definitely do not need anymore. Let me know if you are interested and I can drop it at a convenient place.

I will have a look if we still have board books...or toys...

Hello - I have a couple of bags full of infant/early toddler toys, all in good used condition. Also, some clothes for girls aged 3 months-approx. 1.5 years, are these of interest? Based in Forest Hill if you want to pick up, but have a car so could drop off some time over the weekend if that's easier?

Hi Huggers,

Thanks, we have a car load going over next Friday (Sarah - R11 above is driving). Do you want to add your stuff to that, I can pop round and collect if you like, or you are welcom to pop round here? GIven you are so close to us, any chance I might be able to take you up on the car offer the next time we have a load? Alternatively, if you happen to be passing Brixton any way, the address is Ferndale Road (next to the post office - I've forgotten the door number) and my contact there is Rosa Barugh.

Thanks again

Bea

I have a baby gym mat with play arch thing, and I would be happy to offer some fruit. Bananas, satsumas, grapes....that kind of thing?

I should also have some spare throws and cushions.

If there is a load going on the 21st I could get stuff ready by then, if anyone could swing by and collect at some point. I am just off Underhill Road.

HI there. I have a (slightly battered - i.e lost a couple of doors but still great to play with) Disney pink princess castle). Hopefully its in the category of too big to loose! I'm sure I could drum up some more things as well if they'd be of any use?

If its wanted it would be great if someone was doing the rounds to collect stuff. If not, then I could bring it round to whoever's collecting in East Dulwich.

    • I agree but in the case of McAsh, that would just have left his constituents without a councillor for 3 months until the May elections. MPs switching parties is really galling. If an MP is suspended for law breaking etc., then a recall petition can be issued and, if enough of the constituents support it, a by-election is called. I think the same should apply for defectors.
    • Interesting discussion point @Moovart, should they wait till the next election or should it trigger an immediate by-election so the post is not left empty ?  Your concept is logical and may have the added effect of swaps, lke the Premier league, only happening in a defined transfer window just before each election.
    • I think if a councillor or an MP switches party then they should resign their post and wait until the next election before they can stand again.  If a constituent voted for a person because of their party affiliation rather than for the person themselves, which I suspect is the most common vote, then that vote has basically been taken from the constituent by the councillor's or MP's defection.
