i don't normally like beer/lager (well, apart from shandy) but since pregnant have had real jealous streaks when hubbie has had lagers = have ended up buying non-alcoholic becks/cobra.

Think I got so fed up of drinking soft drinks and so a "savoury" fizzy drink is bliss!

Re Alcohol - My Dad gave Mum a pint of Guiness every day during her pregnancy with me (she was 40 years old at the time too)....it is supposed to be very good for you, or so they believed back in 1968/9....anyway I seem to have survived it unscathed.....

So true about the joy of a savoury drink.

Now, how much iron is really in Guinness? Can I get away with this as a genuine treatment for my anaemia? A daily half (or even 1/4 pint) would I am sure make me a better person / mother / citizen....

My sisters mother in law had a guiness every day for years up to her death at 90+.I had Guiness too in my pregnancy in the 80's plus the oranges (not at the same time!)and I had an abundance of milk.

Edted to say ...it didn't help with my spelling though!

When I have sips of Mr Smiler's beer I just want to down the can/pint!

Alcohol-free Cobra is MINGING! Ta for the tips about the other fake booze that is available, hoping the Becks is better.

M&S do 4-pack bottles of some kind of non-alcoholic soft drink made with hops - the citrus-flavoured one is tasty, and with a wedge of lime in the bottle can (almost) pretend it is Corona!

There's always the utterly rank 'Caliber'. I am going to try these interesting M&S things....

Oh to booze it up again. Did anyone read the article (in some paper about 6 months ago) saying that actually drinking while breastfeeding was potentially more dangerous than while pregnant - something to do with the fact that alcohol is metabolised in the liver and by the time it enters the bloodstream (and therefore can get cross to the placenta) it's not very potent.

Ring a bell? I would love to re-read or get someone else's perspective on it.

The article, more broadly, was about how if you look into it the advice about what you can't do while pregnant (soft cheeses, alcohol, toxoplasmosis) are grossly over-dramatised.

    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
    • Having a BBQ (fingers crossed) in 2 weeks and need a small BBQ for veggie bits and any spare benches or garden tables and chairs to borrow to add to mine. Any going? Thanks in advance...
