Narnia
MD has a flatscreen on the wall of his office which shows live pictures from camera's of all of the offices so he can observe what people are doing presumably. It also appears he has a similar set-up in his home to allow his to watch the employees when he is working from home.Would you work for someone like that? peckhamboy
It would be illegal if employees didn't know they were on CCTV. Have a look on the Information Commissioner's website for guidance on laws relating to CCTV monitoring. ruffers
Why illegal? He probably reads their emails as well, and they probably all signed something saying they know. And on face value maybe it's a bit weird. Or maybe they work in a diamond sorting office with a theft problem. Dunno. Narnia
A lady who is his accountant got a call from him at one point asking her why she didn't answer her phone previously. She was too busy and is working literally 7 days a week to try and get on top of the job. He was observing her from his home. There is nothing in her office to steal. Moos
There'll be something in the contract to say that the company can read emails, but they still need a justification for doing so. If you send an email entitled 'Private' and the company reads it without having a good reason to (e.g. they're on record as investigating you for abuse of company property or similar), they're breaching your right to privacy. Narnia
I understand the emails bit, it's the camera's that are somewhat disconcerting. dbboy
Think if cctv is being used, the employer is required to display signs informing staff that this is the case that they are being recorded.
