As if we haven't seen/heard enough from all the back-stabbing, two-faced, back-tracking national politicians, now the local slime bags are getting in on the act.

The chairman of the Local Government Association, Lord Porter, has said " The government was extremely foolish to ask the UK electorate the EU question when it didn't know what the answer would be".

You really just could not make it up for a satirical sketch show, could you!!

Foolish to divide the country. Foolish to throw it into economic turmoil. Foolish to leave it at the mercy of leading politicians who, whilst campaigning to leave the EU, had not the slightest real wish to win the referendum and - once they'd done so - had no alternative plan to put in place.

It was done - and the result happened

But things are better decided by a manifesto commitment

and voting at a general election IMHO

Imagine if we all voted online for every issue ;)

The EU referendum was NOT voted on line. We had Polling Cards and voted at Local Polling Stations.

Unless I've missed something. ?

I have used slime bags as a generic description of all politicians at all levels, and, by local ones, again I was referring to local councillors as a whole, and not necessarily specific to ED.

I can see where the confusion may have arisen by using definite article "the", and perhaps I could have made that easier to interpret by just stating "now local slime bags" to show the generalisation.

Cameron gave no thought to a Leave vote - just assumed a remain.

Then even worse no long term debate - did we ever discuss what sort of UK we want

That's what I meant - assuming no abuse - everyone a single vote and

we vote for issues and then the government implements them.

Would probably be awful :)

    • But that's the point isn't it Mal, if you go to Glastonbury you are with a hundred thousand other people in the wilds of the country and you cannot complain about noise disruption - you can be selective about where you camp of course.  The Glasto organisers and local council go out of their way to keep the locals onside - friends of mine used to live in a village some miles from Worthy Farm and would be offered free tickets. But there are a lot of people in Dulwich and Herne Hill and Brixton who have huge amounts of disruption thrust upon them because this is, after all, a densely populated urban area and not deepest Somerset.  Councils want to monetise our public spaces as much as they can but this is often in conflict with the needs and wants of their constituents who live nearby. What is happening in Brockwell is a warning as Southwark will want to try and monetise Peckham Rye to the same extent if they can.
    • It is a fact that the festival has been expanded once, both in size and timescale. Attending the free day will be spun as support for not only this but even further expansion and embolden Southwark to launch more events and we could end up like Brockwell.
