adonirum
As if we haven't seen/heard enough from all the back-stabbing, two-faced, back-tracking national politicians, now the local slime bags are getting in on the act.The chairman of the Local Government Association, Lord Porter, has said " The government was extremely foolish to ask the UK electorate the EU question when it didn't know what the answer would be".You really just could not make it up for a satirical sketch show, could you!! Jenny1
Foolish to divide the country. Foolish to throw it into economic turmoil. Foolish to leave it at the mercy of leading politicians who, whilst campaigning to leave the EU, had not the slightest real wish to win the referendum and - once they'd done so - had no alternative plan to put in place. adonirum
Think I agree with you there, Jenny1, regarding some campaigning to leave but not really wanting to win.Even, and how's this for a curve ball, include Nigel Farage in that group? Jenny1
To be fair to Farage...(And I never thought I'd hear myself say that)....I think he did want to win. But of course, on his own, he wouldn't have had a hope in hell. We had Polling Cards and voted at Local Polling Stations.Unless I've missed something. ?DulwichFox Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/112919-and-now-at-local-level/#findComment-1017678 Share on other sites
KidKruger
JohnL didn't say the referendum was done via online voting. He was supposing the situation if on-line format was used for referenda on all issues.Unless I missed something. ianr
What do you mean by "slime bags" and who are the local ones? Why do you call Porter one? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/112919-and-now-at-local-level/#findComment-1017707 Share on other sites
nxjen
It's a basic rule in court proceedings for a lawyer not to ask a question they don't know the answer to and I suspect Lord Porter's comment is an extension of that. Have been thinking exactly the same thing. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/112919-and-now-at-local-level/#findComment-1017717 Share on other sites

Why do you call Porter one?I have used slime bags as a generic description of all politicians at all levels, and, by local ones, again I was referring to local councillors as a whole, and not necessarily specific to ED.I can see where the confusion may have arisen by using definite article "the", and perhaps I could have made that easier to interpret by just stating "now local slime bags" to show the generalisation.
