What's the going rate for a babysitter

Finally ready to entrust our five month old with a baby sitter. We have someone in mind but have no idea what we should be paying her. Also, what's the done thing re transport home?

Mine are ?6 - ?8 an hour cash, and tend to live nearby or drive themselves home. Otherwise I would give them a lift (although I dont drink so its not an issue for me).

I guess it depends on the age of the babysitter and whether they are nannies or not - my 16 year old daughters charge ?5 per hour but tend to work quite locally so within walking distance of home.

I charge ?6.50 per hour & have my own car so no transport issues.
