HonaloochieB
I saw Brian Johnston when he was in Geordie, they were supporting Slade at the London Palladium, it was in 1970-mumblety- mumble, can't remember exactly which year. Bloody good they were as well, and Slade were superb. The best thing about it though was my, what I can only call outfit. From the floor upwards, there was a pair of 'moderate' platforms. Approximately a cm and a half in sole and maybe a 5cm in heel.Black and white, they were, the black being patent leather, the white, matt. Toe-caps black, heel backs also, the rest white. My trousering was white, of the 'loon pant' variety. With the subtle placing of buttons on the outside of the fly region.Yes, even at that tender age I was aware of the devil being in the detail.A khaki fitted sweater encased my torso. But that was not suffivient for me, no. I had the stylish notion to affix a series of steel stars along the front of the jersey. That they drew blood from my chest, mattered at the time not one jot or tittle. For I had the best denim jacket of any in all of Argyle Street that day.Waist length, zipper-fronted, no outside pockets and with a huge faux sheepskin collar that ended at my elbows.I felt like a god after leaving the theatre that day.I don't think I've been as well dressed, before or since. " ...... we supported> Smokie once ... its a shit business ! " > > he said so this is where the ....big knobs hang out mate?Saw them both pre and post Back in Black. As much as I like Brian Johnson, to my mind they were a better band with Bon Scott. They are still a fabulously tight rock band, the VH1 stuff from 1996 proves just how good with minimal props. The last album (Black Ice) was a bit pedestrian to say the least, too many mid-tempo songs with no out and out rockers like Whole Lotta Rosie or Riff Raff. Still, you can't expect a 55 year old bloke to run around like the lunatic he was back in 1978. Jonners is 63 now and showing his age. He can still sing up a storm but being as it's basically him and Angus providing the visuals they are bound to get knackered on a big tour. Sheesh, even Aerosmith are knackered now with Joe Perry having to have a hip replacement and Tyler b*ggering his leg up by falling off the stage.Bon was awesome back in the day, especially on the Highway to Hell tour. He had this manic leer and looked like he'd just found ?30 in his jeans that he wasn't expecting to be there. There's a great story of him going walkabout during The Rocker when he took the wrong turning and ended up outside the Glasgow Apollo and having to buy a ticket to get back inside! I can certainly remember him running around the Liverpool Empire with Angus on his shoulders with smoke belching out of his satchel. Then Angus duckwalking along the balcony and in the Royal box, miles above the audience with the bouncers trying to get him to come down and the roadies ready to catch him if he fell off...They couldn't do that nowadays. Brendan
AC/DC are one of those wonderful rock ?n roll bands who only have one song. This is not something to be derided in fact it is the very essence of what rock ?n roll is. It all just depends on what generation you are. You will always think that the more modern versions of their song that they are playing are crap compared to the version they were paying when you were a lad. For folks who wore bell bottom jeans it was Highway to Hell, for folks who had mullets it was Who Made Who and for those of use super cool kids who wore baggy shorts and had green hair it was Thunderstruck. Everything they released after that is obviously rubbish. So what you say is true for you Mick. Everything they have released after that seminal performance on the Brighton Pier shortly after it?s opening by King George, is rubbish. Thanks for that.Wasn't I a lucky fecker not to break an ankle on them hoors of things. You have to just be grateful, don't you? Mick Mac
Its more that I think Bon Scott's voice was significant for AC DC. Brian Johnson's growl does not do it for me. The same songs are not the same with him singing them Brendan. They might have had some half decent songs since Bon Scott, but nothing of note to me. Back in Black was a great album, written partly by Bon Scott but he died before it was recorded. Johnson gets the vocal credits for the album, but it all died with Bon.After that, different band, doing their best but nothing special. Highway to Hell is a great album. Those who say "you shook me all night long" is their only good song should give Highway to Hell a try. Their best album I think - as it has the Bon Scott voice. I like every song. Track listing1."Highway to Hell" ? 3:282."Girls Got Rhythm" ? 3:233."Walk All Over You" ? 5:104."Touch Too Much" ? 4:275."Beating Around the Bush" ? 3:566."Shot Down in Flames" ? 3:227."Get It Hot" ? 2:348."If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" ? 4:379."Love Hungry Man" ? 4:1710."Night Prowler" ? 6:27All titles written by Angus Young, Malcolm Young and Bon Scott. taper
Heavy makes me happy and Metal makes me mean. But I think ACDC have been very average since Bon Scott snuffed it. Whole Lotta Rosie their best. Now Motorhead, there's a band. PeckhamRose
I loved Ac/Dc and saw them a few times too, and Motorhead, but Diamondhead are on my turntable at the moment. Well, not actually playing right now, but still there from last night. And before that I had on dear old Michael Schenker. Later I may dig out some Hanoi Rocks, they are somewhere between Groundhogs and Icehouse, but only alphabetically speaking. Jah Lush
Headbanging is not for me. I saw them back in the 80s. They're one song/riff which is a bloody good-un as it goes went on a bit though and is of course somewhat repetitive. I preferred them when Bon Scott was still alive.I had a flatmate years ago who had all their records and he used to flog 'em to death. I liked quite a bit of it at the time but not enough to go out and buy any of their stuff/song/riff.
