Large baby wipes - do they exist here?

I'm using so many wipes when I change my toddler's poo nappy and still sometimes get my hands dirty :'( There's a Dutch brand that sells extra large wipes that are also a bit more textured, ideal for bigger kids' poo basically. Is there anything like this in the UK or should I ask my mum to load a Stena Line with Dutch wipes and strike it rich in ED while also keeping my hands clean and saving wipes at home? Are potty training wipes any good for poo nappies? Are they larger? I bet they're too thin since they're meant to be flushable... (although I keep hearing they block drains anyway - but I'm not looking for flushable wipes, just bigger wipes).

I'm currently on holiday and have been using disposable wipes for the first time - my son is 10 months old and I have always used washable wipes. I'm quite surprised to find that the disposable wipes so much messier and less effective! I miss my washables. They are smaller than the disposables, but I never had a problem getting my hands messy before, and never had to keep rubbing his skin over and over again to get him clean. Maybe it's because the washables are more absorbant - I'm not really sure! Anyway, they are really cheap (bought mine from The Nappy Lady) and might be worth a try.

We actually used (large) cotton wool pads and warm water until we moved to a new home a month ago. Three pads would do the trick. In the new house we don't have the same conveniences (no warm water very close to where we change nappies) so we changed to wipes which we had only used for pee and out&about so far. Nice not to have to dry the bum after cleaning it with the cotton wool but goodness you need so many of those wipes!

Washable wipes are basically mini flannels, they effectively 'grab' the poo and get it off, and baby gets a proper flannel wash clean bottom at each change.


I only used warm water for the first month then switch to homemade wash solution which the wipes sit in in a Tupperware by the change mat ready to use - cold camomile tea, 3 drops lavender oil and a tablespoon olive oil - natural, chemical free and moisturising. Leaves slightly damp bottom but no need to dry off.


All for ?7.50 for 36 wipes versus ?400 over 3 years for wet wipes, which I too find perform badly by comparison.


If squeamish about the poo I'd still use washable wipes for wee nappies and wash them in with clothes etc as nothing dreadful about those - just have a clean and dirty wipes box by the change mat.

      In 2016 London City Airport began using concentrated flight paths. When there's a predominantly westerly wind, incoming aircraft approach from East London (north of the River). When there's a predominantly Easterly wind, incoming aircraft approach the airport from the West: circling through Forest Hill, Dulwich, Vauxhall, Tower Hamlets, Docklands. This latter flight path affects many of us in South East London. https://www.london.gov.uk/who-we-are/what-london-assembly-does/questions-mayor/find-an-answer/london-city-airport-concentrated-flight-paths The planes going into City are often below 2,000 ft, so very noisy. Sometimes we have incoming Heathrow at the same time, flying higher. The early flights that I hear e.g. 04:30 are incoming to Heathrow. They are scheduled to land at 05:30 but are 'early'. Apparently the government allows a percentage of flights to arrive early and late (but these are now established as regular occurrences, informally part of the schedule). IMHO Londoners are getting very poor political representation on this issue. Incredible that if you want to complain about aircraft noise, you're supposed to contact the airport concerned! Preposterous and designed solely in favour of aviation expansion.

      Yet another recommendation for Jafar. Such a nice guy, really reliable and fair. He fixed a problem with our boiler and then incredibly kindly made two more visits to replace a different part at no extra cost.

      I didn't have any problems with plane noise until city airport started flying planes to and from about 5-8 minutes apart from 5.30 am or  6 am,  and even with ear plugs and double glazing I am woken at about 6 well before I usually would wake  up. I have lived here since 1986 and it is relatively recently that the planes have been flying far too low over East dulwich. I very much doubt that they are headinbg to Heathrow or from Heathrow. As the crow flies we are much , MUCH closer to City Airport than Heathrow or Gatwick. I even saw one flying so low you could see all the windows, when I was in Peckham Rye Park.
