I watched the last 20 mins of that game in the Magdela(the one with the atmosphere, not the current reincarnation).

I was so disinterested I was at B&Q but when I heard West Ham were winning I convinced my wife I could nip out for a pint and watch the last 20 mins. It was absolutley jammed in there that day and I had not thought there were so many West Ham fans in ED, they easily outnumbered the Liverpool fans, and when Gerrard scored it was like someone had died.

There was something special for me about the 70 WC. I remember England v Brazil was on my birthday. I remember England being 2 up and somehow losing with everyone blaming Bonetti. The Kaiser ended up playing with his arm in a sling I think. Most of all I remember the brilliance of Brazil.
1970 was a tough one for me too. We'd been to my eldest sister's for tea and were going to watch the game there. But I wanted to be able to concentrate on the game without all that family chatter in the background so walked back and watched the game alone and ultimately in disbelief. I actually believed in the England team in those days and when they sang "Back Home" it meant something. I need my faith restoring tomorrow.

the England or West Ham one? Both were, for me, truly gutting!

I honestly hardly bought a drink in Cardiff that night, we were staying down there and went out with a brave face and scousers were practically queing up to buy us drinks.

This is probably the first game I can remember watching on TV with total recall...I was sitting on the arm of 'Dad's chair', which straight away meant it was an important occasion...I also remember going out to the park with my mates and trying to replicate Muller's sidekick winning goal, somehow I don't think I'll be doing that if England let another 2 goal lead slip!

    • But I don't think that was what you meant, was it? But he can hardly be held responsible for what somebody else did! Just discovered I forgot to post the above  last night, and now it's overtaken by long posts.  I don't have sufficient knowledge  to counter some of what has been said above, some of which appears to be opinion rather than facts, so it would be pointless for me to say anything else.
    • I am sure our lovely Evri delivery team, who do a firkin hard job, take the time between drops to read the East Dulwich Forum 🤫
    • For every person like OP that moans their doorbell was rung and there was a knock on the door, there's someone else moaning that they didn't hear the delivery drivers. If you've ever done delivery work you'll know that loads of people's bells don't work. The delivery drivers probably goes to a hundred doors a day: press bell, knock door, drop package, move on. If you don't like delivery drivers, insist on delivery by Royal Mail where the workers have wages and a union - or just stop ordering shit online that's artificially cheap. But most of us (me included) don't want that
    • If someone comes to my house and bangs my door and slams my gate, I'd speak to them about it nicely and ask if they would please not do that. And then subsequently less nicely if they keep doing it, ending in reporting them.  We don't slam doors at home and I don't put up with that either. I can see us moving to a culture where we bribe drivers to be nice by tipping them, but we shouldn't have to. It's not necessary - does not matter if they are on minimum wage or not, or if society means that delivery services are outsourced or whatever reason anyone would like to concoct.
