Co-op LL upping it's game

I've defended the Co-op on here for ages, but after recently going in for cornflakes and finding just empty shelves, plus buying fruit which turned out to be rotten, I am reluctantly forced to agree.

I have never found the staff rude though, apart from one woman who I've never seen since. But yes the queues are often ridiculous.

I recently realised how extremely expensive the DKH Sainsburys is. I have started doing my main monthly shop in Lidl and Tesco in the Old Kent Road (on my way back from the tip :)) )

Sue I recall that you would jump in to defend the Coop, now at least you have seen for yourself the valid reasons for peoples frustration. Sainsbury is increasingly expensive, it's true.

We are currently raiding Savers, for toiletries, hand wash and Fairy liquid ?1 and half the price of SDKH. The nearest one is Rye Lane. Not too far from the tip! happy shopping

I don't mind the coop on LL Though i do find its prices on the high side, so only pop in if I need something and can't be bothered to pop to Sainsbury's... tho I loathe the one on forest hills rd, only stop in there if i need to get something on the way home from work as its convenient, the queues and narrow aisles !

I doubt very much if I'll pop into M&S as I don't really like their stuff tbh & will still use the coop on the lane if i need anything whilst there.

Seems this thread is two days behind i.e. didn't see this thread on the forum a few days ago but it's suddenly appeared tonight.

I remember the co-op as 'International' as the site has had a lot of name changes.

It used to be Somerfield before its Co-op incarnation, I think.

I first knew it as International and then Gateway and then Somerfield. Oh the joys of the Gateway cold meat counter - dry ham, luncheon meat or corned beef anyone?

Yep, there was a Gateway where I grew up. I don't remember the cold meats counter but I was only ever sent there to get milk. I used to also get romany creams and devour them in one sitting. You can't get romany creams anywhere now!

Romany creams are not really called that, are they? (I'd've thought they must be "members of certain travelling commmunities creams" at least.) To keep it on thread, it will be interesting to see whether CoOp changes for the better with the opening of the new branch of not-just-any-supermarket.

Also called Gypsy Creams. Used to be available in some of the selection boxes too. Have seen threads devoted to their disappearance. More chocolatey than Bourbons.

the co-op is a centralised crapply managed cooperative with unempowered, low paid, local staff...how the hell are they going to 'up their game'?

The M&S would be an improvement if they stick to their scheduled opening hours. On more than one occasion, I've gone along to the Co-Op at 9:30pm on the promise that they'd be open until 11pm, only to find that they'd already shut for that day (tends to be Tuesday and Saturdays).

The Co Op in Southwold is nice. Local Suffolk bacon, cheeses and vegetables. Perhaps they'll model it along those lines.

It's a bit late for the Co-op to be upping their game now.

They should have upped it as soon as it was confirmed that M&S were coming.

It will have to be very very much upped to make any difference now. Customers will already have deserted it in droves.
