Horrid and cruel finish for Spurs there, but I think with this manager they have some silverware coming to them... I was a big fan of Martin Jol, but have to say this guy has improved them big time. Although to be fair to Jol, he built this team, and had awful luck with injuries... he just should have given them less cake for God's sake! ;-)

about what you meant with the "dust?" - sorry, but me getting that was the only meaningful use of my brain so far today

aaaanyway

Arsenal 3 v Middlesbrough 1

Derby 0 v Man Utd 4

Liverpool 2 v Reading 1

Portsmouth 1 v Aston Villa 1

Sunderland 1 v Chelsea 2

West Ham 2 v Blackburn 1

Fulham 1v Everton 1

Man City 0 v Tottenham 2

Wigan 0 v Bolton 0

Birmingham 1v Newcastle 2

I'm very upset at missing the Spurs match last night as I was at a Jesus & Mary Chain gig at the Roundhouse. Bah! to that. I thought it was a very tough call for us to go there and win but from what I've read and heard we were very unlucky. It would seem to me that more practice on our finishing needs to be worked on at the training ground.

I just hope that we can continue our good work in the league and get ourselves as far up the table as is possible.

and if we win, Chelsea or Fenerbache in the next round.

Champions League quarter-final draw:

1 Arsenal v Liverpool

2 AS Roma v Man Utd

3 Schalke 04 v FC Barcelona

4 Fenerbahce v Chelsea

Champions League semi-final draw:

1 Arsenal/Liverpool v Fenerbahce/Chelsea

2 Schalke/Barcelona v AS Roma/Man Utd

Oi, I seem to remember a text from you after the Inter game saying we'd have to watch the next round together... Are you suggesting I step away from the pub?!?!?!? ::o

Not particularly happy with this draw, Man U and Arsenal were the teams I least wanted. That said, I think at this stage we have just as good a chance as anyone, and they will be very tight games!

At least we know that if we do manage to overcome Arsenal, we're assured of a place in the final, as knocking Chelsea out is just something that we do! ;-)

    • No, just no.  Zero tolerance does not mean we expect zero crime but that we do not accept a standard level as normal and unavoidable. For those who have suffered such “minor” crimes, myself included having had my house broken into,  it is clear from the lack of action that they are considered “acceptable”’. Once small crimes become known to be ignored, it changes where and how we live.

    • You can't have zero tolerance unless you live in a fascist/police state.  Sadly it is something you have to accept in a democracy.  There has always been crime, even in North Korea, the Soviet bloc, Nazi Germany, Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge etc.   The discussion point is how big a police force we need and capabilities, punishment, and building communities.  And how much we are prepared to pay in extra taxation. Even in the good (economic) times there is crime.  And crime under both Labour and Tory governments. I do not accept that phone thefts and parcel thefts are just statistics.  Police have to prioritise what they do, we might not agree with it.  And most criminals are multi-tasking, moving to where the best return is considering the risk of being caught. And there has to be a market, someone somewhere needs to buy a stolen product (I never buy off Gumtree). A starting point would be to decriminalise all illegal drugs, but that is definitely for a separate Lounge conversation, interesting discussion paper here: https://kar.kent.ac.uk/105520/1/A. Stevens - In defence of the decriminalisation of drug possession in the uk - PPDF.pdf Did you watch any of the series of Peaky Blinders?  This was a very popular series that glorified gang crime and violence.  Funny (ironic) that may enjoy films and TV that does this.  Although only the first series had any historical accuracy in it,  Criminal gangs were around before and ever since.
