My boyfriend and I are looking for an easy, sunny few days / week away from 16th August onwards. Does anyone have a holiday house we could rent? We are very clean people who just want some time to read, sleep, eat and drink a little bit! We don't mind where - as long as you can guarantee perfect weather! ;)

Yes I know its bad timing but that's all work could do.

Any good (not overly expensive) hotels would be great too!

Thanks!

It's been wet, wet, wet in Hungary this spring -- so maybe the hill towns near Eger or the settlements along the "wine road" south of Pecs between Siklos and the Danube, centred on Villany, are not the best bet for the bustle and fun of an early grape harvest at the end of August, with the cellarkeepers selling half-fermented new grape juice, murci, by the pitcher from their doors. Hedge your bets north of Lake Balaton with hot springs, and yes, wine, in the Badacsony region. A hire-car will take from Eger up to the near-mountains of the Felvidek, modern Slovakia -- or from Villany up to Pecs, this year's European capital of culture -- or from the Badacsony hills down to the Balaton shore for swimming and boating. Fares to Budapest are low. Go!

    • There was quite an old clip on BBC4 recently where they were introducing yoghurt to the British public. They called it a 'Balkan Dairy Preparation', which sounded to me more like something you'd ask to speak to the male member of staff about in the chemist in those days.
    • I haven't had any problems, except when the online  appointment system is full, but I have found if something is urgent they can fit you in if you phone. I think they probably keep a few spaces free for urgent last minute appointments, but I'm just guessing  I've found it quite convenient being able to email questions which previously I would have had to ask at an actual appointment, and I've always had a speedy reply. You can send photos as well. I don't know about forms and letters. That sounds bad. Have the admin staff changed recently?
    • Nearly a quarter of the way through the season. Week 9 points...   Week 9 table...
    • The yoghurt was very sharp (not sure of right word) and  if memory serves quite runny. Nothing like the stuff sold now. There was pink as well. Strawberry? That must have had sugar in? Too new fangled for us, but my Auntie Grace down the road used to get it 😂 Well, you had to keep up to date. Sorry, couldn't resist.
