What a nice bunch of lads were gathered outside the Tav last night. You could tell with one glance that they were looking for an excuse to kick off, and sure enough, one of them decided to smash an ashtray across a stranger's head at about 10.45 (he looked as though he was too drunk to feel it, but I bet he's feeling it this morning). Fortunately a police car was passing, but the bloke did a bunk and got away with it.

Absolute scum - and at the risk of sounding like the Daily Hell, I'd say that gangs of scrotes are cropping up more and more in the pubs on Lordship Lane. Hardly ever saw trouble three years ago, and now I get a ringside seat at some sort of ruck at least once a weekend.

(That said, still not as many rucks as in the days of the Forester's, Rosie's and the pool-table-era EDT...)

I bet you they're avid followers of the forum and after reading the many class war threads they've realised

"My god, these people are right, East Dulwich has become gentrified and we are essentially victims of economic cleansing.

Let's reassert our right to control our destiny, I know, let's hang around outside the Tav and beat up posh people with no accents"

Well the base camp used to be The Foresters (Now The Bishop). But certain lads have gone around and been barred from most of the local pubs, then they'll come back when the management changes, then they'll get barred again.

Biggest fight I ever saw was outside The Vale about 3 or 4 years ago. Started with a bunch of lads and the doormen, but then poor passers by were getting caught in the cross fire. Got rather nasty!

blimey, living in brixton before landing in this area (that i dare not call middle class for fear of lynching) i would say that in sw2 you didn't even need the pub for the fight. the best place to watch the free head kicking was always outside the ritzy on saturday night.

maybe we could get some of the new 16 year old special constables to police our 'gentrified against will' streets of lordship lane area.

    • Picked it up on Upland Road near Barry Road this morning and have taken it in so it doesn't get ruined in the rain. Does anyone know a baby Joanne so that we can reunite her with her beautiful hand crocheted blanket?
    • I used to like it's original incarnation (other friends did NOT like it), but when Capital pubco sold to Greene King, they turned it into some identikit, upmarket, let's pretend we are on the river in Richmond menu - hence pretentious. And completely anodyne  The rougher ones tend to have the striking Green coloured signage with a simple ugly font The pretentious (the ones they bought in Dulwich) go for a much flouncier look and feeling serve things like: Sesame-grilled sweetheart cabbage, gochujang glaze, coconut yoghurt, crispy onions, herbs for nearly 20 quid   (time was, on here we used to get into debates about a burger and fries costing a whole tenner!)
    • Are you saying the Bishop pretty rough or pretty pretentious? I haven’t been in for ages.
    • Some incidental background info, (I presume this is the relevant edition of Panorama), from https://www.c21media.net/news/blue-ant-studios-takes-october-films-president-trump-a-second-chance-to-cannes/: Blue Ant Studios to shop BBC’s President Trump: A Second Chance? in Cannes October Films’ President Trump: A Second Chance? airs on the BBC this month Blue Ant Studios will launch forthcoming documentary President Trump: A Second Chance? (working title) at Mipcom this month. Produced by October Films in the UK, the 1×60’ doc, which has just wrapped production, was commissioned by the BBC for its Panorama strand, where it will premiere on October 29. President Trump: A Second Chance? will provide an up-to-date and comprehensive look at Donald Trump’s run for the White House over the past 18 months. Featuring expert analysis, archive material and interviews with those closest to Trump, the doc asks how it has been possible for a now-convicted felon to be within striking distance of securing a second term as president. Blue Ant Studios holds the international licensing rights to the doc, excluding the UK. It will be joined on its Mipcom slate by nature series Walking with Elephants (3×60’) and Roman history doc Emperor: Rise & Fall of a Dynasty. Karolina Kaminska 10-10-2024 ©C21Media
