I'm the last person to say that people shouldn't have a party, but to set off fireworks in a small back garden at 11.30pm is just stupid & selfish. In such a confined area, the fireworks went off right over our house & terrified our children who were woken by the bangs. I love fireworks, but at the right time of year with the right safety precautions & at a distance for heavens sake. I really hope you all had dreadful hangovers.

On the other side of the coin - if anyone responsible for the party on (or near) the St Francis Estate on Saturday, all I can say is: great band guys. I gardened happily to pretty much every Beatles' no 1, Stones, Van Morrison, Kinks and even some Kings of Leon for good measure.

My only gripe was the wind spoilt the sound quality somewhat. Move it all a bit closer next time!

Golly Miss P, you must be really quite tall.

Sorry, I'm with MM on this one - fireworks ARE glorious, fun, noisy and pretty. London's noisy, and if it's not fireworks (which, let's face it, are very few and far between) it could be cars backfiring, parties, sirens...

And what IS the right time of year for fireworks? Chinese New Year? Thai New Year? Diwali? Eid? July 4th? Someone's wedding? Someone's 50th anniversary? Someone's birthday?

I am quite tall, but not that tall! The fireworks were going off just above our loft room & were incredibly loud at such close range. Don't get me wrong, I stand by my original post - I do love fireworks, but not at half eleven at night from someone's back garden, I think it's dangerous. Guy Fawkes night is a great time for fireworks - at least in the winter you don't have to wait until nearly midnight for it to be dark enough to really enjoy them.

i think 10.30 is the latest they should ( or are ) allowed. you can prepare children and pets if you know there is going to be one-but it is not much fun getting up at that time of night to reassure all and sundry.

I expect the people who did it did not have young children of their own or sensitive animals.

There are lots of people who are just ignorant and do not intentionally do these things to upset you- they just have no idea. If you do not make your feelings known it might happen again. But please bear in mind that they probably just not informed and not doing it to make your life hell Miss P.

I think the only time for fireworks is 5th November, if we really have to. We have them several tmes a year for certain religeous festivals, 4th July, New Year, birthdays etc. I think they should be banned for sale to the public and only organised displays be allowed>:D

Well...

    • A quick update - my InPost parcels are being accepted sporadically at Barry's, but only one at a time and every few days, after many refusals - one was refused SEVEN times over about ten days - and several phone calls. As a comparison, I had a message from Yodel that a parcel that was going to Barry's is being delivered to another nearby store, which is interesting...
    • The "Community Benefits" are documented on P12-16 of the Consultation Document. Basically unsubstantiated estimates that it benefits local businesses, claims that it provides "opportunities" for local food traders, businesses & people (the term "opportunities" being meaningless - I have opportunities to win the lottery) without any details, facts or figures, and discounted tickets for local residents (which unsurprisingly seldom sell out). The only direct financial benefit to the Park is a £1000 "Biodiversity Fund" and an undisclosed amount for an "Environmental Impact Fee" - looking at how it was spent this year (flower beds in the playground & Sexby garden) I suspect it would be a similarly small figure. The actual site hire fee - claimed as "commercially sensitive" and therefore undisclosed - is spent on: • Funding the council’s free events programme and Cultural Celebrations Fund • Subsidised fees for community events in the borough • Off-setting the running costs of the Events service, which supports the delivery of the free community events programme  Again, no details given, just vague concepts - can anyone name any of these free & subsidised community events? Or what the "Cultural Celebrations Fund" is or does? It doesn't really sound like any of it is worth  the disturbance, restrictions, noise, litter, environmental damage and negative impact on wildlife in our Park.
    • The organisers must have spent a fortune on the display..imagine how p**s*d off they must have been!!!! Blink and you missed it kind of thing
    • We also recommend Aaron.  Very reliable, reasonably priced and did a fantastic job on our hallway and bedroom ceiling.  A pleasure to work with and left the house very tidy at the end of the job.  Thank you
