citizenEd has it pretty much sewn up there, although I would add that if you can bring yourself to venture a little further into SE15, then:


Lucky 7s on a Thursday at the Gowlett

Frank's Cafe and Campari Bar


both good for a party (and Frank's for a drink any time Thurs to Sun)

Hi James welcome to Downtown.... although not sure I like that expression.... sets the hairs on the back of my neck up on end that does...

I agree Dogger...



James sounds like a "bit of a tool" ( as you said in your PM to me ) BUT


..PERSONALLY I'm prepared to cut him some slack


I'm sure Mrs B is an "Uptown Girl" eh...?

Ah - Frank's, as in the 'rooftop project'. I now recall reading about it last year in the Metro. So it's back for a 2nd season. I will certainly make the effort to check it out - thanks!

Thanks Dogger. Granted, 'downtown' probably isn't the fairest description of East Dulwich, though in the context of comparing it to the relatively narcoleptic Village, it was meant as a compliment. Down with those hairs!

What is so terrible about Adventure Bar? So long as you go for happy hour so it isn't ridiculously expensive, it's lively and the cocktails are decent. Little too loud for a place without a dance floor perhaps, but I usually have a good time.


I'm a relative ED noob, not having experienced this Inside 72 place, or the drum. What were so good about them?

A lot of people dislike Adventure because it?s everything inside 72 wasn?t. Inside 72 was a dark dingy little place that sold interesting beer, had various rock memorabilia on the walls played good music, didn?t have any need for big burly visible bouncers etc.


Adventure replacing it was just a bit of a shock to the system.


The Drum too was individual in it s own way. It had personality. Granted that personality was sometimes grumpy, hungover and cantankerous but when it was on form it was quite sublime.

      These very anti social fireworks went on for at least fifteen years and were unbearable for both humans and pets.    Was extremely relieved that they moved a couple of years ago.  Never experienced such close proximity loud fireworks before.   But the ones that go off in the middle of the night are also very upsetting and annoying.

      The frequency of fireworks seems to be increasing. If revellers selected the low noise variety that would help, but the trend seems to be the louder the better. I do not think sensitivity to stimuli is the same as timidity. Unexpected, extremely loud bangs and unusual noises will startle most of us. Humans, unlike other animals, have the luxury of knowing what fireworks are and what the noise represents. Some animals do learn to cope but many do not. It could be their hearing is not as sensitive. We should not forget that many animals, including cats and dogs have hearing that is much more developed than ours.
