Sat and chatted to Danny La Rue on IOW hovercraft while he sat on the crew bench at the front - I was the safety crewman on that service when a teenager.

Chatted with Dizzy Gillespie about horns in Jazz when he stayed at Mayfair hotel when I was a cleaner.

Spoke with Tommy Tomlinson when he stayed at Mayfair hotel when I was a cleaner.

Asked Alan Wicker to help me get into film/media when he stayed at Mayfair hotel when I was a cleaner who'd just finished apprenticeship as commercial photographer.

Asked Stevie Wonder if his huge penthouse mirrors were OK after cleaning them as he stayed in Mayfair hotel when I was a teenager. He said "Man they're fine", he was OK about it because we'd be cracking jokes the whole time I cleaned his place.

Put on some bands the last 3 years including Little Barrie and Thunderclap Newman, was great talking to Andy Newman those few weeks.

Used to share a flat in Chelsea and this big guy used to come round and cook, we had him for lunch one Xmas day, he was always cracking jokes and causing chaos in bars when we went out, then I saw him on telly years later as a chef, Ainsley Harriot.

Have met and now know Doc Watson, pretty much the lead old-time music player, aged 84.

I was an agony aunt with a difference. My advice used to have a kind of 'top tips' twist to it. Here's an example:

I advised a guy who was suffering from terrible loneliness to convince his postman that he was more popular the he actually was by sending himself several hundred Christmas cards each year.

You are Ben Volpierre-Pierrot and I claim my ?50.00. Hope the name's spelled right, 'cos I didn't Google.

But never mind all that, I want my 'alf-a-century.

    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
    • interesting the police said "the car was in demand at the moment" what make/model is that?
    • Just be careful to know exactly what they cover and the limits. i use Many Pets and Medivet, as I think one of the vets is exceptionally good. Some of the NHV are, but I’ve had a couple I’ve not liked at all.  I need consistency and to feel that they actually care more about the animals than the money.
