My partner and I have recently launched a local community forum for Beckenham, very similar to this site, to encourage discussion and the sharing of local knowledge about the Beckenham area.

Again similar to here, you can Buy or Sell items, recommend Trades People, Businesses & Restaurants etc, advertise your Property & there is also a Family Room too.

http://www.beckenhamforum.com

Businesses based in Beckenham and the surrounding area may make a promotional post once by starting a new thread in Beckenham businesses, bars, restaurants & services. Advertising on the forum will be available at a modest fee by contacting the admins at [email protected].

Its easy and simple to use, just log on and join the community by using your Facebook or Twitter account.

We look forward to seeing you soon

I've given Alice and Nick some (hopefully useful) tips on running a forum, but I was just thinking it'll be good to know what tips you as a contributor to the forum would give them.

ETA: Here's one I forgot earlier...

When someone with their first post says how utterly wonderful a salon/estate agent/deli is and gushes on about how it's the best in the area and everyone really must try it, they're open prey.

Hey admin

Have you ever thought about having a section where you can move such posts into so that everyone can poke fun at them away from the main sections

Just a thought as the first time gushing posters are so obviously put up ?.

Just a thought mind you

I was going to just mention infiltration (by West Wickham and Beckenham) and with the migration of the hipsters from Shoreditch to Peckham, maybe we are seeing the same for older professionals from Bromley to SE22.

Just look at the voting in the last general election and the referendum to understand there is a massive difference in demographics if not necessarily educuation/class

The section could be called "The Stocks"

Thanks Otta good idea! I haven't actually, I do follow but I might DM them today to make sure they are happy for me to do so.

I have posted on most of the Beckenham FB pages, with their consent of course.

Thanks - any more ideas welcome and do all please feel free to join up!!

- It used to be great here before the ED blow ins

- There's too many pound shops

- Is Beckenham becoming gentrified?

- What's the best way to Gatwick on a Tuesday morning at 3.15am?

- PAIR OF WHITE IKEA BOOKCASES FOR SALE!

- Where next after Beckenham?

Thanks everyone, you're actually not that far off! Well the last 2 anyway!

We have a Waitrose already and yes it is starting to become gentrified, more charity shops & hairdressers than pound shops and would you believe we have an IKEA book case for sale!!

Thanks to those that have joined already and thanks again Administrator for your help.

When you register it asks you to type Beckenham backwards.

I did as I was asked and typed "Beckenham backwards" and it told me I had gotten the question wrong. Thus proving that it not only lacks a sense of humour, but that it is damaging for the self esteem of it's potential users.

Hello, I'm Alice's partner. I was in East Dulwich for 15 years before moving to Beckenham, lived in Silvester Road and loved it. We moved in Jan 2015 mainly to have a bit more space indoors and out, it's leafy and green with lots of parks including Beckenham Place Park which is bigger than Greenwich Park. It is certainly already changing with some nice new eateries opened up in the last year. I think there are quite a lot of families moving here from ED, Balham and Tooting for the schools, parks and more house for your money.

I had many good times in East Dulwich, great neighbours, got into all sorts of trouble up and down Lordship Lane over the years and the ED forum was a fabulous community resource that I really missed when I moved away which is why we decided to create something similar. I hope we can make it the success that the ED forum became.

    • I’d also recommend Paul for electrical work. He came round the other week to help us out with a handful of jobs (installing an SPD, new light fittings, installing a dimmer switch, a bathroom fan). His quote was cheaper than what I got from others, he turned up on time and he got the job done quickly.
    • We’d like to add our recommendation for Lukasz and team at L&L Building & Maintenance.  Lukasz has recently installed a roof terrace for us, and we’ve found him a pleasure to work with from start to finish. We contacted about a dozen recommended builders and found his quote very competitive. During the build his team delivered quality work, they were no hassle in the house at all and they kept the place tidy every day. The terrace looks great, and we’re very happy customers. What stood out in particular was Lukasz’s responsiveness, right from discussing quotes to follow-up during the build. Lukasz often checked in and was always available when we needed him.  We’ll definitely contact Lukasz again for future building work and we’d happily recommend him to others looking for a reliable builder.   Lukasz Kugaczewski L&L Building & Maintenance 07926651960 [email protected] www.landl-build.com
    • Yes, I did mention the train, which I now get from East Dulwich to Guys instead of the 40. Depends where in East Dulwich you are starting from which route is easiest! I think it is probably lack of staff rather than lack of hospitals which is the problem?
    • What can be done? How about reporting it to the police?
