Make up definitely required in hospital bag! Squillions of photos are taken and it's nice to look half human in some of them :)

Talking of which don't forget camera/video camera and mobile phone

Flip flops are a MUST not an either/or. You will need to wear them in showers as the floor in there can be somewhat unpleasant.

You will also need dark coloured towels for the hospital.

Don't think a bath thermometer is necessary - fairly common sense what is too hot/too cold

Agree re pillow. Hosital pillows are not comfy/soft and there are never enough

Insect/mosquito net for pram good if you have a summer baby. Mine used to sleep in pram in garden a lot and it's reassuring to know they won't be plagued by flies or worse

Couple of breastfeeding tops are handy too, though not strictly essential.

Good luck, very exciting times!

having read the best friends guide during my pregnancy i would say that yes this is a great list but the bath section can all go except that a baby bath is useful. i only say this due to our times of economic need and also on an environmental 'tip' does the world really need another bath thermometer? most helpfully the average baby monitor now tells you the temp in the room too...

again, i only say this as i remember feeling under a lot of pressure to buy loads and in the end realised that the most important things are nappies, baby wipes, baby grows, muslin squares, non bio washing stuff, push chair, car seat, somewhere for baby to sleep (ha ha, that is not your bed, right!) and a bouncy chair type affair to put baby in whilst awake! steriliser and bottles if you're going to bottle feed (i did) and sin of sins dummies! that was about it as a baby can ultimately be changed pretty much anywhere around your house, can use small towels that you already own and ebay can cater for the rest.

so that was my budget version...

unfortunately sleep does not come bottled ;)
