No, had never seen Spaced before. It's one of the many many shows that I think looks good, but then forget to watch. That's why I like box sets, I don't have to make sure I'm in at 10pm on a Tuesday for the next 10 weeks!

Myself and Aussie house guest a couple of weeks back watched the first 4 episodes with a joint and a few cans. Was funny, and I love the girl (liked her in Royale Family too), but the blokes just don't make me laugh that much, which is why I sat through Sean of the Dead in the cinema and didn't laugh (it has since grown on me thanks to drugs), and also why I will never even bother giving Hot Fuzz another chance having thought it was basically shite!

That siad, Spaced definitely seems like it will be funny enough to make the effort, and Mrs Keef really likes it!

Back to Wire

I love the way each series gives you another take on the same ongoing story. It's interesting hearing the newspaper guys talk about something from a totally different perspective to the pooolice, same with the education system and the unions.

I know you're not really meant to "like" him, but I am really really not liking McNaulty at the moment. He reminds me of a petulant drunk I know in real life.

That wouldn't put me off, Keef, Hugh Laurie has been a staple of the Moos List for many years. And Mr. West really is absolutely smokin'

Actually the only thing that might put me off is that his Wire accent isn't quite convincing - unlike fellow Brits Omar and Stringer who both carry it off to the manner born!

He sounds a lot posher than Hugh, more of a Prince Charles accent, but yes, he's a good lookin fella no doubt!

Can't believe this, last weekend I leant my friend series 3 AND 4, and he's just text me saying he's finished. Said it was so addictive he was watching 4 episodes a time. That is commitment to the cause man!

Don't worry Jah, I've told him you're first in queue for 5.

He also said a complete 5 series box set is being released in December for those who want a xmas pressie!

Oops - Mockers, you called me and you were right to. I was being dozy.

I mixed him up with Stringer from a conversation back on page 7 or something, before I'd watched much of the series. And then separately someone else told me Stringer was English, and it took my mental tally of home-bred Wirebirds to 3. There is in fact no evidence that Mr. Williams is anything other than a true blue Yank*.

*unless it's all a cover-up. And it could be.

A quick word of warning to anyone curious enough to youtube/google/wiki any of the actors to find out any more about their origins/other work etc

Everywhere is RIDDLED with major spoilerage about seasons 3-5 - innocent clips of unrelated shows have spoilers in the youtube titlle fercryinoutloud - I can't stress enough that you do not want to find out in advance what some of these are.

So, now you know...

McNulty's accent improves with each series - back in 1 and 2 there are some real moments of "wtf was that he just said" - it is all forgiven however, for one episode where, for reasons I shall not divulge, McNulty has to pretend to be English and do the whole Englishmen pretending to be an American pretending to be an Englishman schtick. Brilliant.

So true! HBO's The Wire website's Cast and Crew section should not be read unless you've already seen quite a few of the series...I inadvertently found out far more than I wanted to about the characters and their fates - I'm only up to the end of series 1.

Man, see what you did then? I read the character summary of Mouzone and now I know Too Much. I'm expecting a man with a gun to come around the corner to my office any second.

OK, so we're not liking Mock Bey - and I can see why, it was a bit sloppy. How about Proposition Piers?

    • What would be the point of that?  It may work in a  USA style mall where there’s maybe a single point of entry and armed security people.  But here financially, it wouldn’t work.
    • I think there's a similar square-type thing around Queens Road Peckham, which has stayed in pretty good nick. It was certainly a vast improvement.  Having said that, it would be terribly sad if small businesses suffer in the process. I love the fruit 'n' veg stalls & shops on Rye Lane, and the atmosphere in general atmosphere and very much hope that a new station square and the stalls aren't mutually exclusive.
    • Shoplifting is such epidemic now that it justifies the introduction of facial recognition facilities at the entrance to retail premises. With immediate access to  a database of all known shoplifters, such a facility could sound an immediate alert to management - provided of course that removal of face masks was a condition of entry.
    • Hello,  Myself and my partner are looking to welcome an F1 Cavapoo into our home in the next few months. We are struggling to find breeders that we trust that is in driving distance. We wondered if anyone has any recommendations for reputable licensed cavapoo breeders or can put us in touch with anyone? We are happy to drive up to 4 hours from London for the right one.  Many thanks
