SeanMacGabhann
I think PR was ironically quoting Monty Python to prove a point (ie Peckham is plenty good) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12905-peckham-sunday-market/page/2/#findComment-354788 Share on other sites

Brendan
In the Life of Brian there is the, What have the Romans Done for us, scene. It is because of this this, I?m assuming, that the rhetorical question, ?What have the (insert subject here) done for us.? has become a bit of a modern colloquialism. helena handbasket
One of the corner shops (at Blenheim road I think) has a popcorn popper that makes fantastic popcorn. Buttery, salty movie kind, not that sweet stuff. ?1 a bag. Also Brockwell Park has a horse. He's lovely and friendly. No idea what his story is but I love that he's there. pilsbury
i read this thread with interest as i'm going to head down to the market on sunday (been meaning to go since we moved here a wee while back). someone mentioned "the best persian shop" - i'd be interested to know where this is/what it's called?i often head down rye lane and pick up fruit and veg but am somewhat nervous of going into the other food shops, becauase i'm scared i'll make an idiot of myself buying/asking for the wrong thing! (my bad, not the fault of the shops'!) i am pretty unfamiliar with the international cuisine that seems to be represented on rye lane (west indian & middle eastern to name just two) so any personal reccs would be hugely appreciated :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12905-peckham-sunday-market/page/2/#findComment-362150 Share on other sites
Peckhamgatecrasher
The Persian shop is called Persephone's - just along from Wilson's Bike Shop in Peckham High Street.Khan's in Rye Lane (opp. Blenheim Grove) is good for tinned/packet exotic foods, light bulbs, etc. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12905-peckham-sunday-market/page/2/#findComment-362154 Share on other sites

woofmarkthedog
I'm quite liking the Peckham Tip at the momentWe've been going out down in the Bellenden Road area lately. There's a nice friendly crowd down there & the legendary Meat Wagon pitches up regularly, It's not unusual to meet people who come from North london just to try his burgers. I've also discovered some niche businesses, up-cycle furniture makers & such like.So is it better than East Dulwich ? I don't think you can compare really, I'm just glad they complement each other. I like the creative Village-y feel in & around the Bellenden Road , the housing stock is quietly grand & diverse communities live side by side . I do also enjoy the variety & scope in the Lordship lane area too, we are spoilt for choice I'd sayLong may it continueW**F( I will check the market out ) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12905-peckham-sunday-market/page/2/#findComment-362313 Share on other sites

titch juicy
khan's emporium on rye lane is the best shop, probably ever, in the history of shops......the only place in peckham rye you can get strong bread flour on a sunday evening, i'll tell you that for free :)-D Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12905-peckham-sunday-market/page/2/#findComment-362568 Share on other sites
Marmora Man
Khans is about the only place I can by good Ginger Tea - chinese origin I think and full of granules but with a real ginger kick, better than herbally ginger tea bags that taste of nothing Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12905-peckham-sunday-market/page/2/#findComment-362569 Share on other sites

HAL9000
It seems that Khan's may be dropping some of their more exotic lines in favour of more popular western products - I hope this trend doesn?t continue otherwise it will end up like any other mini-market. Ridgley
There is also, TV shows like Desmond?s and Fools and Horses some episode of the Sweeny that as put Peckham on the map I agree with Djkillaqueen Peckham has some shops as well as Brixton and Camden for me has other shops I like Dulwich does not have all the shops I need there is a slight snobbery towards Peckham. People like that need to get out more and get a life :) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/12905-peckham-sunday-market/page/2/#findComment-362912 Share on other sites
