One of the corner shops (at Blenheim road I think) has a popcorn popper that makes fantastic popcorn. Buttery, salty movie kind, not that sweet stuff. ?1 a bag.

Also Brockwell Park has a horse. He's lovely and friendly. No idea what his story is but I love that he's there.

i read this thread with interest as i'm going to head down to the market on sunday (been meaning to go since we moved here a wee while back).

someone mentioned "the best persian shop" - i'd be interested to know where this is/what it's called?

i often head down rye lane and pick up fruit and veg but am somewhat nervous of going into the other food shops, becauase i'm scared i'll make an idiot of myself buying/asking for the wrong thing! (my bad, not the fault of the shops'!) i am pretty unfamiliar with the international cuisine that seems to be represented on rye lane (west indian & middle eastern to name just two) so any personal reccs would be hugely appreciated :)

by the way - while hunting for more details, i came across the wondeful looking blog (have only scanned it as am supposed to be working) - http://helengraves.co.uk/ - full of tips of eateries and food shops roundabout (including persopolis).

you may already know it (in fact it might be one of you that writes it :)) but thought i'd pass it on just in case.

I'm quite liking the Peckham Tip at the moment

We've been going out down in the Bellenden Road area lately. There's a nice friendly crowd down there & the legendary Meat Wagon pitches up regularly, It's not unusual to meet people who come from North london just to try his burgers. I've also discovered some niche businesses, up-cycle furniture makers & such like.

So is it better than East Dulwich ? I don't think you can compare really, I'm just glad they complement each other. I like the creative Village-y feel in & around the Bellenden Road , the housing stock is quietly grand & diverse communities live side by side . I do also enjoy the variety & scope in the Lordship lane area too, we are spoilt for choice I'd say

Long may it continue

W**F

( I will check the market out )

There is also, TV shows like Desmond?s and Fools and Horses some episode of the Sweeny that as put Peckham on the map I agree with Djkillaqueen Peckham has some shops as well as Brixton and Camden for me has other shops I like Dulwich does not have all the shops I need there is a slight snobbery towards Peckham. People like that need to get out more and get a life :)

    • Another recommendation for James - he helped us move house at short notice. He has a very big Luton van and he kindly helped us load and unload the van and was lovely to chat to for the hour long journey.
    • We used Joseph to move house and he was very communicative, punctual and was lovely to chat to during the journey! He was very patient when we arrived and the previous occupiers were still moving out, which was hugely appreciated! Would highly recommend.
    • Another glowing recommendation for Keith. We’re incredibly grateful to EDF for helping us find Keith - I had lots of other quotes from companies who were upselling the work we needed, whereas Keith was very friendly, honest, knowledgeable and competitively priced.  He was incredibly communicative through the whole job and carefully thought through his approach. He did lime mortar repointing along with some brick and masonry repairs, and did everything to a very high standard. We could absolutely trust his advice. He’s lovely to chat to and very respectful of neighbours, clearly communicating when there would be noise or mess. He organised the scaffolding company who were also excellent (Reliable Scaffolding). They worked around limited parking and were prompt to take down the scaffolding once the work was finished. The scaffolding was also much cheaper than other quotes.  Couldn’t recommend Keith enough, it’s a pleasure to have him working on the house and we already have him booked in to do another job for us.
    • If you mean the joinery firm that made windows and doors, it closed down several years ago and a private house was built on the site.
