zobellina
Hi EDF people, My daughter and I are new to the area having moved from Sydenham 2 months ago after she got placed in the Harris Girls school. We have only moved 2 miles but it feels like a very long way from her friends and the places we know, and as she is the only girl from her primary school at the new secondary, she is finding it hard to settle in. I wondered if any of you lovely people could point us in the direction of any activities or clubs that are good for meeting local people and other girls, I work full time so unfortunately evenings and weekends are the only time I can get out and about. My daughter used to play football for her school team in primary school but we are having trouble finding a girls team near by, and there's the usual pre-teen apathy starting to set in. So if there are any clubs, groups or classes she can get involved in either after school or at weekends (not necessarily football based!) we would love to hear about them. I like to cycle and I have signed up at yogarise in peckham, but you don't really get to chat during a yoga class! We look forward to hearing any suggestions! Thanks Zoe Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/130496-new-to-the-area-with-a-12-yo-daughter-looking-for-activities-and-to-meet-locals/ Share on other sites
Renata Hamvas
Hi Zoe, welcome to the area. I would suggest you contact Athenlay Football club and/or Carribhttps://www.facebook.com/Athenlay-Football-Club-111393445595443/http://www.southwarkcaribbfc.co.uk/html/teams.htmlI don't know if you're on the Nunhead side of the Rye, if so, your daughter may be interested in Westminster House Youth Club.http://lovenunhead.co.uk/community/category/community-groups-and-clubs/member/westminster.houseYou may be interested in Southwark Cyclistshttp://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/There are various things happening in the Green Community Centre on Nunhead Green and at the Ivyhouse Pub on Stuart Road. (I have assumed in all this that you live close to Harris Girls'). Guides and Taekwondo are present at a few local venues. It may be worth your daughter joining after school clubs at Harris Girls' to meet those amongst her peers who have similar interests to her.Good luck!Renata Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/130496-new-to-the-area-with-a-12-yo-daughter-looking-for-activities-and-to-meet-locals/#findComment-1069808 Share on other sites
zobellina
Renata, Thank you so much, weeks of googling haven't given me this much information! We're the East Dulwich side of the Rye, but close to the school so these all look like good options to get started on. Many thanks Zoe Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/130496-new-to-the-area-with-a-12-yo-daughter-looking-for-activities-and-to-meet-locals/#findComment-1069816 Share on other sites

BeccaL
To conflict with Football Magic, there's also a girls football session at Athenlay (https://www.facebook.com/Athenlay-Football-Club-111393445595443/) - 11.30-1 on Saturdays - they range from 8-15 and are very friendly.
