Hi all,

My brother loved Top Gear on TV but is a total luddite when it comes to techno stuff. He doesn't have internet at home but has a tablet. His TV is too old for a 'dongle' type thing.

Basically is there any way he can watch the new Top Gear thing (called The Grand Tour) any other way at all?

If you have an amazon prime account yourself you can give him login details as you can stream on up to two devices simultaneously. they have a discounted yearly subscription available for the next few days. it's worth it if you order a lot on amazon, you also get amazon music which is similar to spotify included.

I asked a mate who has an account and he didn't think you could burn it-maybe he is wrong?

IF ANYONE OUT THERE COULD BURN IT I'D PAY!!

There's no way to *legally* burn it to DVD... plenty of info online if you want to go down that route. I dare say it is morally justifiable if you have purchased the subscription especially.

edcam's suggestion is also a good one. Buy him a copy of Russian Ark, and prescribe a course of self-flagellation and bus travel.

Apparently you can download Amazon Prime titles to watch offline:

Does he have a landline? You can get line rental + broadband for around ?15 a month from Sky or PlusNet with a free wifi router.

Or go to a pub / caf? / place with free wifi, buy a drink and a snack, and watch there?

Amazon don't like to promote it, but there is an Amazon Video subscription without Prime for ?5.99pm. However I wouldn't suggest that he watches the show over mobile broadband as it'll consume the data very quickly.

Dulwich Library has free wifi, along with many cafes and Sainsbury's DKH where he can sit in Starbucks, but don't connect to their own wifi as they charge.

Fine for temporary use, but if you keep it for a year the cost would be 12x5.99 = ?71.88. You get the full prime for ?79 a year.

    • So Boris Johnson goes on an unhinged rant about the deal using violent gimp imagery (an image repeated by other brexiteers), and I comment on it but it’s MY language you are policing? how come it’s not Johnson and his language you  are commenting on?
    • Is there anyone who does face painting who would be available to come to a children’s party next Sunday 25 May from 11-12ish? It’s a Frozen theme- about 10 kids or so. Please get in touch with more details and an idea of price if so. Many thanks
    • Nope that concern predates the Jerk festival.  But I am talking about when I first moved to SE London and some locals complained that the nice music was too loud. Separately some people are still moaning about the Jerk festival,  Felt some comments were (casual) racist, but that is a different subject matter. That day was great,  A victim of its own success. A kin to Fatboy Slim playing a free festival on Brighton beach, tens of thousands went but it took a long long time to clean up.
