oh for the love of...

Van we stop squabbling and stick to the subject please?

Alan - I suspect the performance of the Camberwell station will dictate the possible extension further south - they are rolling it out in stages so it's wait and see

Best location would be near the station I would expect.

Can you take the bike home over night and bring it back to the station in the morning, otherwise I can?t see much reason using it unless you were going to ride all the way into London?

I wonder if the scheme will be successful in residential areas.

You could take it home but you'd be walloped with a big usage charge. The charging structure is built around short (under an hour) usage. I hope it fans out to zone 2 although with the promise that you should be within a few hundred metres of one, that will be a big investment

Back in 2008 all GLA Mayoral candidates promised bike hire schemes.

The Barclays Boris bike hire scheme hasn't yet been completed in zone 1 and various teething problems. So it will be some time before zone 1 is completed before it gets rolled out further.

Sooner this happens the better but lets not get excited soon.

Wimp. The gearing is easily high enough to get up DKH without breaking a sweat.

The Barclay/Boris bike is all well and good on flat ground, but they are very heavy & almost agricultural to ride

I reckon if you're serious about commuting/cycling then get yourself & your employer to get onto this scheme & save up to 50% on a bike

If you want to go by bike/train/bus, then buy a Brompton Bike

( it only takes about 20 seconds to fold one down )

I did it years ago & bloomin' love it

W**F

I ride a lot, on and off road, for pleasure, racing and commuting and the couple of times I've been on a Ken Bike I've loved it. Up hill, down hill all I wanted to do was smile! They are weighty and the gearing is too high for me but they are a blast to ride anywhere!

Also beware of HMRC rule tightening on bike to work schemes. They may not be as good as they were a few months ago.

New tax rules, but don't let it put you off cycling!

Alan I'm not sure where you got the impression that a docking station is planned to be installed in Camberwell?

The first phase is only in zone one (the nearest stations are Oval and Elephant). If there is a second phase it will be eastwards towards Canary Wharf and the Olympic Park.

Oh, how appalling ( but I'll look anyway ) wrote woof!

I thought it had been done quite professionally, almost as if it belonged there.

I'm sure it expresses a view which many patrons of that bank feel,

when they read on their statements the costs of the banks extortionate charges.

    • It happened again tonight. This time a group of kids ( I hate saying that, because it makes them sound less intimidating than they are), threatened to throw a water bomb at me. When I dared them, they started lobbing them. Then they started saying they were going to kill my dog and one of them jumped over the fence of the Japanese Garden and took a running kick at my dog, who got out of the way. He jumped back over the fence, then came back, came within a meter of me and threw a water bomb really hard at me.  I can't be sure it was exactly the same crowd as last time, though I suspect the male ring leader could be.  The police came and were amazing - as was the park warden - and are fairly confident of the identity of one of them and think they may have tried to arrest him before.  There were maybe as many as 15 of them, aged 16-18, all Caucasian, girls and boys (girls being just as aggressive as the boys). The ring leader is a slight man, dark hair / eyes, possibly with facial hair about 5'6", petite, wearing an all-blue tracksuit.  So please be careful when you're in the park around 6.30 / 7pm. The local SNT have been informed.
