  1. Geoff, I'm up for it, will pm you.
  2. The max transaction it ?20. The ticket inspector takes the last four digits of your card and then checks it against the buses oyster reader. It's no different from paying for a coffee with a contactless card.
  3. But James you keep on with the myth that it was SLL v ELL. It wasn't and isn't. The South London Line is being removed due to the London Bridge redevelopment. ELL Phase 2 would be happening whether the SLL was being removed or not. Network Rail timetable changes occur twice a year hence the changes happening at the same time. Of course it would be great to have both services, but the ELL will open up lots of journey options with new connections to the Tube. London Overground services have done lots for the new areas the line now serves and it will for our part of London. Yes the removal of SLL is a loss, but you should be encouraging your constituents to take a look at the options the East London Line opens up not dismissing it outright.
  4. LondonMix's alternative of PR to Blackfriars then District and Circle to Victoria is a good option. I use it now when the poorly spaced Southern and South Eastern services don't work timewise or are up the spout. It doesn't add much time to my journey but cuts out the nursery pickup stress. The South London Line v East London Line debate is a nonsense anyway. If we weren't getting the ELL we would still be losing the SLL. But the East London Line will help mitigate losing the South London Line and there are other options to get to Victoria (other than the bus) which don't add a huge amount of time to journeys.
  5. Hi Belle, our little one (now 5 and a half months) went through the same process - Gaviscon then Ranitidine - both useless. We pushed for Omeprazole following advice from friends who had been through the same. It has been excellent and while it is a pain to administer it has made a huge difference. We have had to have him regularly weighed as it becomes less effective as the baby gains weight so the doc needs to up the dose.
  6. As Huguenot says there is a huge amount of political misinformation about this issue. My understanding is: The South London Line removal is due to the Thameslink works at London Bridge. The works mean there will not be enough platform time/space for Thameslink and current service levels. The South London Line is the least used service into London Bridge across the day therefore the decision was taken (by Network Rail and DfT to axe the service). Otions were put forward to mitigate the loss including a Victoria - Bellingham service which would replace services to Victoria via DH and PR but not London Bridge services. TfL needed funding for the East London Line Phase two extension and proposed diverting the money from the proposed Victoria - Bellingham service to help with the cost, as DfT refused any further funding to support the scheme. A business case was put forward to DfT showing that the East London Line would benefit more people than Victoria Bellingham so offered better value. This argument was accepted by the DfT. TfL then put forward a proposal to DfT offering further mitigation to the decision not to proceed with Victoria - Bellingham. I'm not sure where this has got too. The decison to scrap the South London Line was taken by the last government, so Tessa Jowell's support now seems a bit late given she was in that government and presumably could have done something then.
  7. Loz they can't wait two weeks because the RMT's strike mandate runs out on 20 June, so they need to strike on Sunday to keep that mandate alive, if they don't they need to reballot for action.
  8. Bare Groove played at my wedding two years ago, people still remark about how good they were. They were brilliant and we had an awesome party thanks to them.
  9. Alan I'm not sure where you got the impression that a docking station is planned to be installed in Camberwell? The first phase is only in zone one (the nearest stations are Oval and Elephant). If there is a second phase it will be eastwards towards Canary Wharf and the Olympic Park.
  10. Jeremy the Jubilee line upgrade will be finished later this year adding 33 per cent capacity to the line, which will do a great deal to ease crowding and will cut journey times. The DLR has just had a 50 per cent capacity increase. You also said most people want to go into central London. According to responses to the Mayor's Transport Strategy Consulatation the third highest priority for people responding was to provide better interchanges to reduce the need to enter central London to access other routes. A key point which campaigners neglect to mention is the cut to services to London Bridge is due to Network Rail's Thameslink works and has nothing to do with the East London Line. If we didn't get the East London Line the link to London Bridge would still be cut.
  11. I find it incredible that a Government Minister can come on here and claim credit for campaigning on this issue when it was DfT and Network Rail who took the decision to cut the SLL in the first place. If it was so patently needed why were you not fighting DfT when this decision was first taken? You only became interested when you could blame Boris for the cuts to the planned Victoria to Bellingham service (which again was a DfT decison).
  12. "This will help the campaign to keep BOTH the SLL and the East london line extension and not have to scrap one for the other..." To make the point again. The South London Line is being removed due to the Thameslink improvements at London Bridge - not the East London Line. The proposed replacement for the South London Line - the Victoria to Bellingham service (which would not have provided a direct link to London Bridge) is not going ahead as the money is being used for ELL phase 2.

It is 'SLL v ELL'. It's not ELL v SLL. It is Thameslink v SLL and ELL v Victoria - Bellingham. The decision to scrap the South London Line is due to Thameslink. Victoria - Bellingham was a proposed alternative to the SLL and is not proceeding due to ELL.
  14. The end of London Bridge trains is a consequence of Thameslink, not the East London Line.
  15. "although good luck at getting on teh jubilee line at Canada Water during peak times...)" - The jubilee line is being upgraded - there will be a 30 per cent increase in capacity on the line, and faster journey times from next year.

There is something developed at the moment which though not this sophisticated will be a real help. Using GPS techology in buses there will be an application which will tell you what time the next bus will come to your stop on your phone/pc. And it will be more reliable than the old countdown system at stops.
  17. Cars towed from red routes in south London are taken to a Met police pound in Charlton so ED would be strange place to be asking for money. Sounds like a scam.
  18. Cycling is allowed in many parks including Dulwich Park and Hyde Park.
  19. I won't go in to depth on the dispute, but Sean in response to your question about why these trains don't have the kit: - new Victoria line trains will be start to be introduced within the next six months they have this kit fitted - fitting the kit now to the old trains would take longer than that. - the RMT haven't raised this issue before in the past 40 years these trains have been in operation. - the purpose of the safety procedures is to ensure that if the doors are opened incorrectly then no one is hurt, this guy didn't follow the procedures and someone could have been hurt, luckily they weren't. 18 drivers have made this mistake in 5 years, 16 of them still have their jobs because they followed the procedures.
  20. Sean - you forget Barnet, the ever present friend of the speeding motorist.
  21. Sean - you forget Barnet, the ever present friend of the speeding motorist.
  22. But you will never get one set of rules, there are 33 London Boroughs all of different political leadership, all with different priorities. There are different speed limits on different roads whereever you are, it is a motorist's responsibility to be aware of the speed limit. Yes people just want to go from A to B, but unfortunately lots of people get killed while people go from a to b. By lowering the speed limit hopefully less people will die or be seriously injured. 20mph reduces risk to 1 in 40 chance of being killed - I think that is a fair balance. So what is the objection to driving at 20mph?
  23. TLS - because at 20mph the chance of a pedestrian being killed is very low. If a pedestrian is hit by a car travelling at 35 mph they have a 50 per cent chance being killed If a pedestrian is hit by a car travelling at 30 mph they have a 20 per cent chance of being killed If a pedestrian is hit by a car travelling at 20 mph they have a 2.5 per cent chance of being killed Sean is right it is about balance - driving at 20mph significantly reduces a pedestrian's risk of being killed. I think it is worth cutting the speed limit to cut the risk to pedestrians so significantly.
  24. The money making argument is such rubbish. Speeding fine revenue goes to the Treasury not the borough council. I doubt Southwark Council has any desire to bolster the Treasury's coffers. Five people died on Southwark's roads in 2007 (most recently available data) and 130 people were seriously injured. People (in particular children) are less likely to die or be seriously injured if hit at lower speeds, regardless of whether speed is a factor in the collision. As for the argument that motorists are distracted by varying speed limits - it is a pretty fundamental principle of learning to drive to be able to register what the speed limit is.
