My son's school has suggested that we find an athletics club for him. They don't have anything like that at his school. He is young (year 2) but loves running and seems very fast. I think he'd really enjoy something like this, does anyone have any local recommendations? Many thanks

My daughter goes to South London Harriers. They train at Crystal Palace. I'm not sure what age they take them from (she's 13) but my son, who's in Year 4, has joined in a few times when we've gone to watch. I don't know of any other clubs around. Their email address is www.southlondonharriers.org.

Crystal Palace Sports Centre does athletics on a Saturday morning and an evening a week. They have a wide range of age groups. My daughter enjoyed it when she was in years, 3 to 4.

Defo echo a thumbs up for Crystal Palace Sat morning athletic classes. The coaches, Roy and Judi are amazing. They teach technique and take them from quite young. That for a couple of years would be fab and then something like South London Harriers who also train at CP and a route into competitions.

    • I haven't had a rude EVRI delivery but last week I had an unexpected delivery at 10.42 pm. He didn't ring the bell or knock on the door (or rattle the letter flap) but just took a photo and put the box down.  If it hadnt been for the door camera giving us a beep we would never have known there was a parcel ready to sit there all night.

    • I have a rescue Spanish greyhound (galgo) from the charity mentioned above. You can contact Greyhounds in Need or one of the more local Kent greyhound rescue charities. They are fantastic family dogs. They do love walkies 2 or 3 times a day but they actually don't need to be walked too far and then they will happily loaf around on the sofa being very chill. They are brilliant with kids but not recommended if you own a cat as they have a strong prey drive. They also should be kept on the lead in local parks. They prefer to be around other sight-hounds (well my one does) and there are loads of local sighthound owners in Peckham, Crystal Palace etc and a very lively WhatsApp group that is brilliant if you need dog sitting as you can usually find someone to do that for free in return for you looking after the dog at a later date etc.
