Being a nosey parker with an irrational hatred of empty shops, I am intrigued by the first few signs of life in a few empty premises on LL/NX Rd. Anyone have any inside info about the following?

Old Woolwich near crossing by Londis: A new boarded-up door has appeared! Can this mean something???

Old Chopsticks on LL: Definitely saw someone working there the other day... Anyone know who's taken it on?

Old offices opp. Blue Mountain Cafe on NX Rd: I see a 'Sold' sign has gone up. Am pathetically excited at the prospect this might become a shop or shops as it's such a big site. Anyone heard who's bought/rented it?

Premises next to flower shop near Goose Green: Is this still to be a dentist? It's taking forever.

Old stationer's near Goose Green: I gather from elsewhere on the forum this is to be a second-hand clothes shop? Can anyone confirm this?

Old Threshers shop on LL: Sadly, no signs of life in this one at all... Ditto the old video shop, presumably too early to know who's taking on this premises yet (if anyone).

My understanding is it is to be a veggie restaurant connected to SMBS. There is new signange in place, hidden by a canvas

This is correct

Video shop is on a VERY expensive lease ? suspect it will be a chain if anything

Not LL/NX, but there were builders clearing out the shop on the corner of Forest Hill Road and Dunstans Road (next to William Hill) this morning. That shop's been empty for ages, so will be interesting to see what, if anything, happens on the site.

SMacG is correct about Chopsticks. Mrs Kford heard from the SMBS boys that they will be turning it into a veggie/organic curry house.

The stationers is to be a high-end second-hand clothes shop.

Heard that the old offices are to be a Jack Wills White Stuff-type shop. I think I heard that on here though, so read into that what you will.

xxxxxxx

I just can't express how absolutely horrified I am to hear this, given that I will have to pass it virtually every day :-S

Praying it's not true :-S

Do you mean the Blue Brick Cafe on Fellbrigg Road? Yes, how funny there'll be two veggie cafes opening so close together. Good to hear that SMBS has taken over the old Chopsticks site.

Interesting about the old offices on NX Rd - I'll be sad to see a chain move in to that street. But it all sounds rather unconfirmed so I guess it's a bit early to bring out my protest placards.

And hooray for a 'high-end' second-hand clothes shop! We wouldn't want just any old second-hand clothes in ED after all...

My mother was annoyed to find that clothes from Her Era (60s) are now vintage, and stuff that she thought was vintage (20s/30s) is now considered antique..

Waitrose

would love a decent menswear shop to fill one of these places, bit gutted to hear the blue brick cafe will no longer be a breakfast type caff, they did a great fry up, interested to see what the new place will be like though - I have to say though it seems a bit of a rubbish location for a restaurant though, can't imagine them getting much walk in business
I was surprised to discover the other day that the homeware part of Mrs Robinson has a little menswear section at the back of the shop - think this is new? Not cheap, but looked like a decent selection. And Ed is pretty good for men's clothes.

    • I struggled with the parakeets literally decimating the bird feeders within an hour.  I tried squirrel proof ones to see if they helped, but they jammed their claws in the mechanism to stop it closing.  Then the pigeons managed to do the same.  I spent a long time researching the best ideas and came across something on Pinterest.  Someone had used a metal dog cage and attached it to a wooden platform.  So that's what I did!  Once set up, you just hang the feeders inside.  Large birds like pigeons and parakeets cannot get inside.  I get all the small birds, plus starlings.  Not many thrushes or blackbirds around, so have no idea if they could get in.  The squirrels do!  It's amazing watching them slide through narrow gaps.  I also covered the roof of the cage with a piece of plastic to keep the rain off, plus I am just about to replace the cage plastic base with something more mesh like.  It can get a bit gooey after a while, so with mesh, all the dropped seed from the messy goldfinches, will go on to the ground where the pigeons can clear up.  I even added a birdcam.
    • Yep, of course I do - did you not read the bit from the survey about the noise having a negative impact on foraging bats? And like @Angelina I'm aware it affects other people, and if no one complains then it gives them an argument that's it's all ok.  The tree in question was a cherry that everyone loves, didn't need to be touched, and the council admitted was a mistake and shouldn't have happened.  The council and Gala use the 'local' narrative as a benefit, without any figures to back it up. It is used as an argument for the event to go ahead, when there's no basis of fact. The attendees are clearly not local as they've proved they don't give a **** about the area. The council do tell us where the money is spent - 100% on running the Events dept, and a myriad of unlisted free events. They just don't tell us how much, so that we can make an informed decision on whether the gain is with the pain.  Sorry, what was your point again?
    • Leon came this evening and did a small job.  He was able to fit me, which I’m grateful for.  He arrived when he said he would. Very professional & friendly guy, offered great advice and very reasonable prices.  Highly recommend Leon! 👍
    • Thanks, that's quite big, isn't it?
