edcam
He went down hugely in my estimation when he made some homophobic remarks a few years ago when Brokeback Mountain came out. Shame, because I used to like him. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13556-rip-tony-curtis/page/3/#findComment-367599 Share on other sites
PeckhamRose
That's sad edcam. I never knew that. I know from his autobiography and other articles written about him that he was not homophobic. Were the quotes heard straight from him or quoted a la a tabloid type credit? At least you stayed on topic unlike the children above! ;) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13556-rip-tony-curtis/page/3/#findComment-367603 Share on other sites
edcam
No it was a direct quote Rose. He said that he refused to watch it and that many older members of the Academy of Motion Pictures felt the same. Odd when admittedly earlier in life he said much more liberal things on the subject (although there are allegations that privately he was rather more bigoted than one would imagine.) partly a generational thing but disappointing from someone in the movie industry who made a career from playing the pretty object of another man's attentions and from dragging up!
