felt-tip
traffic was backed up all the way from Blackfriars. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13684-camberwell-green-accident/#findComment-369765 Share on other sites
Fliss
New Kent Road was closed in one direction only (from Elephant) and I heard a couple of people say there had been an accident there, but there is definitely something else going on as well. No busses going into town. Most busses terminating at Camberwell Green, or else changing destination (shortening their journey). I haven't heard or seen a plane in the sky for hours. All that congestion in town and not a single helicopter checking it out... I left work in Gray's Inn Road at 5.15 and got home shortly after 8. Saila
could they have been doing a dry-run terrorist training exercise? just an idea - they keep saying they're expecting some incident soon Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13684-camberwell-green-accident/#findComment-369788 Share on other sites

Not saying you're wrong, I have been thinking the same thing for some time, but I don't recall actually having seen or heard anything to that efect.Just seem to be more police about than usual at stations etc.. Fliss
I was thinking the same, Saila, except I was afraid it might be the real thing. Nothing in the skies makes it especially spooky. We always have air traffic in London. Except for Icelandic vocanoes and terrorists. Saila
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/sep/30/british-brothers-terror-attack-europethey keep harping on about this - perhaps i should turn the radio off more Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13684-camberwell-green-accident/#findComment-369795 Share on other sites
Fliss
Yes Sue - you're right - and don't you think that's a bit suspicious? And why are there no busses tonight? I live on Lordship Lane and it's never this quiet this early. I got used to scarpering pretty sharpish.Sorry, off topic. Fliss
Yes Saila, I remember the IRA bombings, and I was here too at the time. And Sue, I had no idea big aeroplanes just drifted along on the breeze... I meant, my understanding was that when the wind was in a certain direction, planes approached the airports from a different direction, and hence didn't come over East Dulwich :)) There are forum threads about it :))And Saila never mentioned IRA bombings? Oh, maybe it's just past my bedtime, think I'll go and chop up some flyers .... Fliss
Sorry Sue, no she didn't, it was you but you had quoted her post so I got my wires crossed. Also about the flight paths, I wasn't talking about the ones directly over East Dulwich, but in the sky over London generally - I was talking about my journey this eveing from WC1 back to SE22, between 5.15 and 8.00 this evening when I finally got home, and it just struck me as odd not to have seen or heard anything overhead. It really was a strange journey, with massive delays and of course no information about anything, and everyone wondering what was going on. Very unsettling! kford
Camberwell New Road was cordoned off from Brixton Road to Vassell Road including John Ruskin Street, with police shooing everyone away. Saw an ambulance park up at the junction of John Ruskin Street, but didn't see any smashed cars. Seemed a bit over the top to shut the entire road down, unless it was someone running around with a gun or a knife. Sonners
Fliss, I share your pain - I was also on a long and tedious bus journey from High Holborn to ED about the same time as you although got to the Mag at 7pm so it sounds like I was lucky! kford
Didn't look like much from where I was passing, but yes, it was one of three accidents in the area and two fatalities involving motorbikes: http://southeasteleven.blogspot.com/2010/10/another-accident-on-kennington-park.html Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13684-camberwell-green-accident/#findComment-370020 Share on other sites
TJ
This was outside my office last night. A young guy on a scooter going up the bus lane. A car cut across the bus lane to dive into the car park and there was a collision. Confirmed as a fatality. All very sad and unnecessary. Mark Dodds
I heard it was a young woman. Two people I know were caught up by this. One on a bus going toward Oval said he did not realize how much blood the human body contains. Very sad. http://bit.ly/aDd1jn Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/13684-camberwell-green-accident/#findComment-370599 Share on other sites
