Any ideas please. My 10 week old grandaughter developed cradle cap which spread all over body. Olive oil and aqeous cream has helped on trunk. Doc has given oilatum for bath and shampoo but skin on arms and legs scaly and dry, but bearable. There is a patch on head very sore and itchy, which doc has given steroid cream for, but not clearing up, what else can she use to a) help clear the cradlecap and b) stop the itching whaich causes her to attempt to furiously scratch head :(

Many thanks x

my gp told me that you need to remove the dry skin, otherwise it gets itchy. re head - apply olive oil the night before or about 3 hours before, then use a baby COMB (not brush) and comb thru hair which will lift the scales off. the gp advised to then wash the hair and apply aqueous cream afterwards. you should do this daily.

doublebase cream (on prescription) is actually much better than aqueous cream, but doublebase is much more greasy (hence why it is better!), so often parents don't want to use doublebase. i basically just put up with baby's hair looking greasy as it was more important to deal with the cradle cap.

aqueous cream is water based which is why it is less greasy (that's what gp told me). my little one was much better with this advice. hope your grandchild gets better soon xxx

Nothing works for my son, and though I had used olive oil before and it did nothing, I thought I would try olive oil again which I left to soak , and then I gently massage all the dead skin off, I did circular motions with my fingertips, and it all came off and never came back!

Bit off topic but- when does cradle cap go? My girl who is almost one still has very dry, flaky skin on her head. You can't see it due to her hair and it doesn't seem to bother her but just wondering when it goes away. It is very small flakes so I am not even sure if it counts as cradle cap or is more like dandruff. Thanks

We found a brilliant anti cradle cap product while we were in the states on holiday - made by a firm called MD Moms

They ship to the UK.

More expensive than the coconut oil option but we did find it to be really good

My little boy never had it as a small baby then around 1 he got it. never bothered him though and as you say, the hair covers it. I used to put olive oil then comb his hair in the bath and get what i could before he noticed!

Mustela cream helped a lot but you can't find it in the UK. Actually, I love Mustela, they have great products for babies with Eczema too. You can get Mustela all over Europe and in the US, maybe you can get it from the net to deliver in the UK.

    • There was another unprovoked attack on Monday this week on a young woman nearby (Anstey Road) at 6.45pm. Don't have any other details, it was posted on a Facebook group by her flatmate. Pretty worrying  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1EGfDrCAST/
    • OMFG is it possible for the council to do anything without a bunch of armchair experts moaning about it? The library refurb is great news, as it's lovely but completely shagged out - the toilets don't even work reliably. Other libraries in the area will be open longer house during the closure. July is a rubbish time to begin a refurb because it's just before the entire construction sector goes on summer holiday, and it would mean delaying the work another 8 months.

    • Second time Aria has completed a plumbing job for me and both times he’s been polite. Communicative, kept to time and completed the job. He’s very helpful and tidy as well. First job was ball valve in water tank, not easy at all. He and his team were fantastic. This time kitchen tap cylinders replaced and tap tightened.  Much appreciated, Aria thank you.
