Tandy Corporation History

In brief apparently it was a leather goods store that bought Radioshack in the'60s. It then dropped the leather goods, which went on to trade independently under the Tandy name, whilst Tandy Electronics rebranded as Radioshack.

In the UK it traded under a subsidiary called 'InterTan' under the Tandy name, which went independent and then was sold to Carphone Warehouse. A company called T2 (presumably Tandy 2) operated some of the stores in Radioshack stylee.

There's no reason given for why they didn't trade under the Radioshack name in the UK. Unconfirmed rumours claim the name was already owned by a small local trader who was trying to extort them for the use of the name. Could be a load of old bollocks though.

Nope. Not me. A "Sherlock Holmes" pipe, or a bent apple pipe as it should be known, is a little outr? for me. I'm more of a striaght billiard pipe sort of man. With a nice Danish Black Vanilla.

But talking of things you never see any more....

Just outside the magnificent Botanic Gardens on Great Western Road, there is a lovely guy who sells coffee from one of those police phone boxes.

It's called Cop-a-cino :))

    • what type of car was it, if they are in demand, might be helpful info.
    • Which has, unfortunately, closed. Au Ciel is much better than Gail's. Big bakery in the parade of shops near Rocca in Dulwich Village with all the seats outside - you can't miss it. Normally a big queue outside at weekends with walkers and cyclists topping up on carbs and coffee!
    • Hi, just to say there was an attempted car theft at the FH end of Underhill over Friday night. Without wanting to go into all the detail, they were pretty adamant and took a great deal of time to (try) take the car. The police came within minutes, and drove around etc.. The police said the car was in demand at the moment. I don’t know if that was brand or model. notwithstanding what the police said, all car owners should be vigilant and neighbours. These thieves were interrupted twice by neighbours, but the thieves came back etc and the neighbours didn’t put 2+2 together as to what was happening to the car. The thieves were two guys, on the cctv it looked like they were wearing grey, but it may have been black (cctv can look odd at night). My neighbours said they were black. They had a bag with them, no doubt carrying tools and they may have been dropped off by a car, that is being investigated.  Take care!!
