door to door guys out Ondine rd tonight

The guys selling dishcloths really annoy me as they don't seem to co-ordinate their efforts. We had 3 separate calls within 1.5 hours last night from 3 separate lads all selling the same thing.

If you're going to sell things door to door then at least have some kind of strategy!

This is like Oliver Twist.

Teams of 'Olivers' selling poor quality goods for some 'Fagin' sitting pretty somewhere.

The goods are cheap poor quality.

If you buy anything you will be 'marked' as a soft touch. Expect more visits.

This is organised, all the trays these lads carry seem to be very similar in design, shape & content.

The guys that have come to me have not claimed it was for Charity

They say they are just starting out and trying to make a go of things.

But there always seem to be in groups.

Which makes me think it is organised.

I did once buy some dusters. They were crap. Really Bad.

The story I used to get was that it was a company providing work for previously unemployed people.

I haven't got time to look this up, but there have deffo been forum threads about it in previous years, with links to stuff on the net confirming the dubious nature of these people's claims.

And whatever/whoever they are, the stuff they are selling is not worth anything like the price they ask for it.

We had them banging on our door last night. A big-ish, rather forceful chap managed to convince my husband to buy something. He picked out some tea towels, then my husband came inside to get the money - he was told/asked to make a donation, when I saw them I turned them over and there was a price of ?4.99! I was like jesus love they ain't worth a fiver, they are rubbish! He still paid for them, I think he thought they were legit charity. I just hope they don 't come back as I'm certainly not answering the door to them again. And they better not bang on the door and wake up my kids.

    • The birth rate in the UK has dropped significantly from 1.92 in 2010 to 1.56 in 2021. This has an impact on class sizes in state schools which obviously is magnified as kids born in these years come to school age. Looks like all those thousands of ex-private school kids will actually keep our class sizes at a reasonable level: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/education/london-school-closures-places-pupils-falling-birth-rate-b1158175.html (from 16th May 2024) Despite the Telegraph's best efforts, this is a non-issue.
    • It's surprising though that they (France in particular) don't seem to have been paying attention to this side of the Channel and seen how a right wing populist Gov has trashed the UK. That if you vote for 'simple solutions to complex problems' like what Brexit promised, you end up with simpletons in charge. Who then proceed to drive out what remains of any competence/experience to  create an, ecosystem of incompetency for no other reason than they 'believe', promoting the likes of Lee Anderson to party Chair and Truss and Sunak to PM. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?!..
    • I am back from holiday and just seeing this. This is Zuzia, and she lives with her owner on Lacon Rd. She found her way home safely. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.
