For the 3rd time this week, whilst driving along Court Lane I have been shouted at by different cyclists. It appears that when crossing Court Lane from Eynella Road into Dulwich Park that they have right of way! This has caused me to brake, while they cycle out in front of me, feeling free to shout abuse as though I am in the wrong.

Is there something that I don't know?

(As a cyclist) For the 5th time this week i got cut up bad by a car!

It appears they can do this! This has caused me to brake hard, while

they drive across me, feeling free to shout abuse as though I am in the wrong.

And as Ratty kindly mentioned, your lovely metal box will ensure you live to drive another day :)

Point is, your cyclist bashing pointless point works both ways.

Lets just all be a bit more tolerant of each other :)

As far is being tolerant is concerned, I have been, on 3 different occasion's this week alone. The cyclist's haven't.

I fully agree that tolerance works both ways. I'm not a person who complains easily, and as proved already, daring to open a thread in this lounge opens you up to taking a 'bashing' yourself.

In this instance the cyclist was in the wrong.

I fully agree with you re the cyclists :)

All i'm saying is if i started a thread for every 3x times or so

i got cut up or a driver swerving into me as they're on their

Blackberys etc...i would be starting a thread on the same subject EVERY DAY...

And that would be really tedious, for everyone.

Thank you everyone, I'd like to apologise for being tedious, this is the first thread I've been brave enough to start. I'll never do it again!

My mistake that The Lounge was a place to air your thoughts. I would say that 'I'll know better next time' but there won't be one.

DJKillaQueen - chill....

Good for you. Motorcyclists are taught something called defensive riding. It's something many cyclists automatically do. I personally am fed up of drivers who complain because driving requires they pay FULL attention to what is going on around them. In 15 years as a driver myself I have never come even close to hitting a cyclist and yes that includes those that break the rules.

Naah. Headcam, so you can relive the terrified look of the pedestrians as you bear down on them at speed as they cross the zebra crossing...

Thank you DJKillaQueen. I never intended to bash cyclists. I was just trying to raise the point that the same thing has happened 3 times in the same place in 1 week. I consider myself to be an observant driver. Unfortunately I don't have a crystal ball that shows me when a cyclist is coming along Eynella road at speed and about to ride out in front of me.

Okey-dokey. Give me a few minutes and I'll think a few more up.

    • This week's edition of The Briefing Room I found really useful and impressively informative on the training aspect.  David Aaronovitch has come a long way since his University Challenge day. 😉  It's available to hear online or download as mp3. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m002n7wv In a few days time resident doctors -who used to be known as junior doctors - were meant to be going on strike. This would be the 14th strike by the doctors’ union since March 2023. The ostensible reason was pay but now the dispute may be over without more increases to salary levels. The Government has instead made an offer to do something about the other big issue for early career doctors - working conditions and specialist training places. David Aaronovitch and guests discuss what's going on and ask what the problem is with the way we in Britain train our doctors? Guests: Hugh Pym, BBC Health Editor Sir Andrew Goddard, Consultant Gastroenterologist Professor Martin McKee, Professor of European Public Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Mark Dayan, Policy Analyst, Nuffield Trust. Presenter: David Aaronovitch Producers: Caroline Bayley, Kirsteen Knight, Cordelia Hemming Production Co-ordinator: Maria Ogundele Sound Engineers: Michael Regaard, Gareth Jones Editor: Richard Vadon
