Caesi01
This is simply outrageous and I cannot believe the society we live in:thieves, robbers and kidnappers and an underfunded police force it seems. A core function of a state is protection. ludoscotts
Ive just seen on a Facebook page that there was an attempted abjection at Dvis this morning too. They didn't give any other details but surely can't be a coincidence. TheCat
need to be careful on the rumour mill here. as far as im aware the local schools have only sent a notice out about the one incident near goose green school. This warning would have been sent out by DVIS to parents, as all local schools and nurseries would have done. So perhaps someone getting confused about where this was......not saying there wasnt a second attempt at all, one is shocking enough...but im wary about 3rd hand info off a facebook post...about a second incident.... chuff
The charter have sent an email saying there were 2 attempted abductions.Copy and paste We have been advised of two attempted abductions of younger children near local schools. We are advising that, if possible, you ask your children to walk to and from school in pairs or small groups. Please also remind them that if they see anything suspicious then the police should be called on 999 or they should let school staff know as soon as they come into school. cazfay
Could still be the rumour mill as Dulwich Village Infants school sent this text:From DVIS today:Parent alert: Today AM there was an attempted abduction in E.Dulwich of primary sch child. Child is safe. Chdn at DVIS are being reminded of stranger danger. So no mention of a separate incident at DVIS. The message from dulwich college is:We have been informed by the Southwark Safeguarding Coordinator of an incident that occurred near Elsie Road, East Dulwich at 8.40am this morning. A white man in a black car stopped and tried to pull a Year 6 girl along by her cardigan. The police have been informed. Again a single incident (still one too many) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/145890-attempted-child-kidnapping-by-goose-green-primary/#findComment-1115485 Share on other sites
Caesi01
you're right. my comment came accross incorrectly.I absolutely do not think that the police could prevent something like that in the act.I meant more that more needs to be done to provide a renewed sense of safety. We as citizens are not meant to live in fear or insecurity within our communities.Instead, we employ/entrust the state to provide adequate measure to safeguard us.uncleglen Wrote:-------------------------------------------------------> Caesi01 Wrote:> --------------------------------------------------> -----> > This is simply outrageous and I cannot believe> the> > society we live in:> > thieves, robbers and kidnappers and an> underfunded> > police force it seems. > > A core function of a state is protection.> > I don't see how the police could stop this type of> thing at the time it happens. > Even when the cops catch people, using precious> time and at great expense, the crims are released> on bail and abscond.....> These people are chancers, and they have no way of> knowing if there are plain clothes police and> unmarked cars around so they take a chance- we can> only teach our children and keep an eye on them Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/145890-attempted-child-kidnapping-by-goose-green-primary/#findComment-1115611 Share on other sites
wonderwoman
In apprehending someone (we don't know) they may find that there is a history of offences which would give them grounds to take further. It may not and this incident may pan out to be something very different than what is initially described. Does anyone know if we can find out what happens with these incidences? There have been several reported as previously mentioned but we never hear how they have been followed up at all. There have been several> reported as previously mentioned but we never hear> how they have been followed up at all.I imagine that we will only hear anything if somebody/some people are arrested/prosecuted.The police are unlikely to tell us much for fear of hindering their investigations, I imagine. There was a case in Oxford last year where a schoolgirl (I think aged fourteen) walking to school was dragged into a car and taken to a house by several men. The girl was later dumped in Oxford (alive but physically hurt and mentally traumatised, obv) and so far as I know the men were never caught. This apparently happened in a busy road during peak hours, yet no witnesses came forward. It's very hard to know how things like this can be prevented. An increased police presence in the area might be something of a deterrent, but that isn't going to happen, is it? Budgets have been cut. And in any case, the people who will do this sort of thing don't seem to be risk averse. rendelharris
I never quite understand why these incidents are not more widely reported - if I wasn't on the EDF I wouldn't know they'd happened, nothing on BBC local news etc. Admittedly I don't have children myself but I always pass the info I see on here to those friends who do, and they always ask why it hasn't been in the local media. And also, to avoid making the perp feel important, but maybe that's a stretch too far. Ruskin
We're no longer a schoolchildren-age family so school news like this is off our radar too. There's nothing on Twitter under #eastdulwich or #goosegreen and as much as some hate the idea of Twitter, it does get messages like this out. As we found with the Calton Avenue attempt on 6th December, news does filter out eventually but there was a delay.Edited. tomskip
Sue, it turned out the girl in Oxford was not abducted. It was reported quite widely. louloulabelle
Very worrying as I had no knowledge of this till I saw this post and my children's school, as far as I am aware, have sent no communication to parents today. We should always be vigilant of course but always good to know if there's been a specific incident. wonderwoman
Just thinking about another incident recounted to me in relation what Sue has said about this kind of thing happening in broad daylight. Two teenage boys were in McDonalds in a very busy area in Victoria afternoon lots of people, two blokes apparently tried to mug them, threatening and one of the boys refused, the other was dragged into the toilets severely beaten robbed of phone and money. Again no one reported this and the men got away. Often people are too afraid of interfering in case they get hurt themselves. uncleglen
I am an utter cynic and therefore I believe that the reason these incidents are not widely reported is because they do not want the general public taking the law into their own hands. Most crims- even if they are caught red handed, are released on bail and disappear....
