downsouth
And the winner is....... The Rosendale! Just had a meal there in the restaurant side which was good and wine which was amazing: Viognier and Muscat :)The waiter told me that they had won today and beat Monsieur Ramsay to the title. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/restaurants/article-23412576-details/Gordon%20tastes%20defeat...%20again/article.do Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1466-best-gastropub-in-london-time-out/ Share on other sites

Jah Lush
Good grief! I take it it's been done up to the nines since I last went in there a couple of years ago. Anyway, well done to the Rosendale. Obviously I'll have to give it a go and see what it's like now. downsouth
Allfornun - It's true. I live a couple of minutes away so I'm always in there after work. The bar menu is good but I would suggest you go for the upper part as that is where the restaurant menu is served. works out to about 40-50 per head depending on how many courses and wine you go for.Jahlush - yes it has been fixed up A LOT since you were there. Not to say it was that bad before mind. It also has private dining/function rooms upstairs. Jeremy
?40-?50 a head? You can get a meal in a michelin starred restaurant for that! Well, just about... *Bob*
Chez Bruce. Michelin starred: ?36 for 3 courses. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1466-best-gastropub-in-london-time-out/#findComment-39931 Share on other sites
*Bob*
Though from what I read it won't be too long before The Rosendale has a star all of its very own. lozzyloz
Bob does that exclude drinks and service? Last time I ate there it was closer to ?200. downsouth
I love Chez Bruce but the numbers you gave a. should be ?37.50 for 3 courses and b. doesn't include wine or the discretionary 12.5% so more like ?55 per head. What I gave was all in (including 9 glasses of different wine from a 30 strong list of wine by the glass) and was of a very good quality. It (being the quality) is high enough to perhaps receive a star one day.The winelist http://www.therosendale.co.uk/menu.asp?menu=2689 is charitably marked up too. I can definitely recommend the Viognier and Muscat - sublime.I'd sooner pay that than ?11 for a sandwich. *Bob*
What is this.. the Knitpickers Ball?!Ok.. so for 'around ?50', you can have a good feed and share a nice bottle of wine at a restaurant with a Michelin star. Everybody happy? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1466-best-gastropub-in-london-time-out/#findComment-39955 Share on other sites

Chapter One and Arbutus are two examples of michelin starred restaurants where you can get a meal for two with a modest wine for under ?100. And there are loads where you could spend less than ?150. downsouth
Don't you think it would best to perhaps visit and see what you think yourself and also to be pleased that Dulwich has won such an award? *Bob*
Indeed, Jeremy.I think most people go to M-star restaurants 'as a treat' and so order all the trimmings (aperatif, cheeseboard, digestif, wine galore). It need not be so. Order modestly.. and go twice!(Err... That said, I think we coughed-up over ?175 in CB's last time) Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1466-best-gastropub-in-london-time-out/#findComment-39960 Share on other sites
Jeremy
downsouth - don't get me wrong, the menu does look good and I'd love to check it out some time. It's just that I was initially surprised at those prices in a pub. But if the food is of a high quality (which apparently it is), then I guess it's pretty good value after all! timtim
This is great news for Dulwich. Looks like the Rosendale has come on a long way since the 2 for 1 pizzas of yesteryear! Jah Lush
Spot on lozzyloz. You'd think the Village would have room for one decent restaurant wouldn't you. downsouth
I like Cafe Rouge but was disappointed that they opened another. I already have one on my door step! To be honest the one in west Dulwich is much cosier and friendlier. Back on topic has anyone bar myself been to the new Rosendale? Charlotte
I agree it's great for the area, I've been once just after it opened and it was very good, not really a gastro pub though. I believe Anglea Hartnett was championing it at the awards!! Perhaps now that Ramsay has closed the restaurant at The Connaught she's looking..................... downsouth
>> Perhaps now that Ramsay has closed the restaurant at The Connaught she's looking.....................If only - that would put a rocket under Dulwich's profile. We already have a few bentleys parking out there of an evening. Saw a few really old crusty Michael Winner types in there last night no doubt off the back fo the evening standard article.
