I was in a rotten mood this morning- maybe it's Theresa May and her lying ;)

The Gowlett is quiet whenever I'm down there - and that included the traditional New Years Day party thingy that's really popular. It isn't locals that make the worst noise - I'm pretty sure that's people coming here to go clubbing and planning to stay out all night.

Can't actually believe some people believe the Gowlett is noisy - My flat would not be suitable for families is all I'd say :) The big complaint in my bit of town is the Whistling guy - as the rest is just the liveliness of Rye lane.

The whistling (and a bit of swearing with it) was pretty bad last night - surprised it didn't reach as far as the Gowlett - the noise issue is being directed the wrong way - it's like a mouse versus an elephant.

Anyway there's this hashtag coming on twitter #dontcutthegowlettoutofpeckham

Hi all, I have been in contact with officers about this. The information I've got is that:- There was a private party in the pub over Easter and a resident called the noise team. They came out and following a second complaint from the same resident they came out again. The music noise level was assessed to be at a level high enough to be a nuisance to local residents and hence why there was a noise abatement order. What the noise abatement order means, deal with the issues that happened that night and it shouldn't be repeated.

I have asked that officers communicate with the Gowlett management. We have a really good bunch of officers working with Licensed premises to help them sort out any issues there may be. This appears to have been a one off event. They have 21 days to appeal if they think the Council was wrong in issuing the order. Local pubs such as this are very important to local communities; the best way to support them is to use them.

Thanks Renata,

That might make a lot of sense because surely if any issue is to do with the licencing hours or the fact it is a pub then it is a licencing issue rather than a noise abatement issue. In fact this would be an abuse of the noise abatement powers.

I know there was a private party there over Easter but that's not normal.

The Gowlett is great place and has offered something very different from other places here for many years so it is important to protect.

It would be heart breaking and negative if this was a straight forward case 9f someone moving next to a pub amd complaining that the pub is there.

    • you're witnessing "Natural Selection" the core mechanism behind the theory of evolution which determines if organisms survive long enough to produce offspring
    • Maybe Angelina did see them, however how many people and drivers didn't?  Just takes one to cause life changing for both.  Wouldn't it be more sensible if cyclists realised lights and reflective gear is not just to help them see but to potentially save their lives by making them visible to all.
    • I agree with this, I'm afraid.  I see it every day within the industry - a lot of it is to do with the fact that the people working in it are younger now and don't realise how much they're being subconsciously indoctrinated by certain forces (social media and group-think), so they're now pathologically incapable of objectivity. Also, they don't read books, pick up the phone to experts, or generally know how to research properly.  On a lot of documentaries I've worked on, I've been leant on hard to peddle narratives that are not only heavily biased, but often outright inaccurate, and I've fought back where I can. It's really depressing,  I'd like to think that, at the BBC, I'd be immune from these influences, and allowed to project a 360 view, but it's sadly  not the case. You'd also be surprised at how toothless the BBC can be when presented with something that's irrefutable but could, say, upset Murdoch or the DM...  Hands up, I'm guilty of platforming extreme right-wingers, misogynists, anti-abortionists, racists, anarchists, pro gun lobbyists, rape-apologists... you name it, I'm all for putting them in a programme. Even though I deplore what they stand for, it's important to me to have a counter-view, and they almost always hang themselves.  (Job done.)  It's funny that certain people are up in arms about Rockets posting 'misinformation' in the Traffic threads, but  seem OK with it in broadcast, as long as it aligns with their views. You have to ask yourselves, what is it that you really want? If it's an echo chamber then just watch Fox News or CNN, however you lean. But then what's the point of it all? I fear the ship's sailed, so I don't know why I bother.
    • That’s right, we could see them passing us at the stops and then as we overtook them. There was one moped without lights doing about 30mph.    Stupid is one word, but when it puts pedestrians at risk, it’s a different word. We’ll be raising it and hopefully get some publicity about road safety awareness
