on New Years Eve. Having been over-served in the pub.

anyway, it's working! Except the screen keeps fogging up. anyone got any tips on how to dry it out properly? the only bits i can detach seem to be the back, sim and battery. It's a Samsung E1120. and Rye Lane's finest so i'm not ready to give up on it yet.

Cheers Ollie X

As you've been using it since it got wet it's probably only a matter of time before it fails completely.

What you SHOULD have done was to leave it off, battery removed until it was completely dried out.

It's worth taking it to a specialist shop who will open it up completely and give all the circuits etc a proper dry and clean.

i know narnia - i really wish they'd stop doing it to me. and believe me, three days later and the phone is recovering much better than i am.

thanks horsebox and computershorty - will apply advice - though it seems the prognosis is not good.

oh all the things i SHOULD have done...

You can sometimes get hold of 'dessicating' salts that they leave in clothes/shoes in boxes to take the moisture out and stop them going mouldy.

I wonder if it's possible to buy one of these and leave it with your mobile for 24 hours in an airtight ziplock bag?

I did the same once after being over-served at a local hostelry and eventually after a few days my phone died. We later held a memorial service for her at the Crown & Greyhound (The Dog) in Dulwich Village and the staff there were suitably sombre. I was touched and very moved by the service there that day which was much quicker than they usually are. The beer flowed and there was much gnashing of teeth but I remembered next time I went to the loo never to have my phone again in my top pocket.

I've had several mobile phones since and they've all managed to live a good long life until I've decided to upgrade and left them lying dormant in a draw just waiting to come to life again.

thanks boys! well i think you're boys - at least i always assumed huguenot and jah lush were boys - but now i'm having problems with my mental imagery. how does either gender drop their phone down the loo from their top pocket? or perhaps that is just something that shouldn't be answered...

and i just happen to have some of those salt thingies left over from a christmas present. going to put my brain, phone i mean, phone, in a zip lock bag right away and see if i can't dry it out.

and if that doesn't work it's down The Dog the morra

Each time i've dropped the mobile phone in the loo it's been fine after taking battery out and cover off and laying the phone on a dry folded flannel with open side facing upwards so that moisture / condensation can escape.

It's worked for my Sony Ericsson and Samsung, but obvioulsy I may have have been just lucky.

it also worked when I droppned my Samsung into a 10 litre tub of emulsion (disgusting pink colour), so I just put the phone in the bath when I had a bath and gave it a good scrub, after drying it worked fine and luckily was NOT stained pink.

I like Huguenot's idea of sealing it up with some sort of suitable desiccant. The silica gel sachets you get with shoes might work, you can also get larger things you put in wardrobes/drawers/etc. Probably not worth spending any money though, as you can get basic 2nd-hand phones for next to nothing.

well what i did in the end was just ignore it after i applied all the wonderful remedies supplied here, and it was still giving me a new symptom a day. today it seems to have swanned back to life. didn't like being ignored i suppose.

ignoring situations that require action often works for me i find. X

    • Would anyone have ends of balls of wool, any colour, to mend an old blanket? Any colour? With thanks Mila
    • I’m not a Gail’s fan but there’s no reason a business shouldn’t open on Christmas Day. However, nobody should be compelled to work the day which, given the widespread coverage of Gail’s questionable employment practices, has to be a possibility here.  The only business I ever use on the 25th is maybe a pub and that’s a rarity these days but buses running would be very welcome for visiting etc. But the swings in the park should definitely remain chained up. Are parks even open on Christmas Day?
    • To be honest, pal, it's not good being a fan of a local business and then not go there. One on hand, the barber shop literally next door to Romeo Jones started serving coffee. The Crown and Greyhound and Rocca serve coffee. Redemption Coffee opened up not far away, and then also Megan's next door to that. DVillage was serving coffee (but wasn't very popular), as was Au Ciel (which is). Maybe also Heritage Cheese, I don't know. There's also Flotsam and Jetsam doing coffee and sandwiches at Dulwich Picture Gallery in the other direction. The whole of Dulwich Village serves coffee. And yet on the other hand, there are enough punters to support all good coffee shops. With the exception of Rocca and Megan's (which are both big spaces) and C&G (which does coffee like everything else - slow and with bad service), all these places regularly get queues out the door. Gail's often has big queues and yet very few people crossed the street to Romeo Jones (which was much better)... Half the staff at Gail's are perfectly fine and efficient. The other half are pretty offhand and rude. It's certainly not welcoming or friendly service. But they're certainly hard working, and no doubt raking the money in for Luke Johnson...
    • Well according to a newspaper article, Gail’s is opening 10 shops in London,,, yup Dulwich is named 10/5 I seem to recall with others in London opening at 7 am…!, Guess that is to capture workers coming off all night shift. Offering free mince pies until they run out.. So very sad to hear about Romeo Jones… been a customer since the opening, any idea where Patrick has gone or details… please pm me.    What is going to be in its place…. Will be around in Jan…umm village is changing….
