My PS3 gets used for dvd/blurays mostly - gameswise I haven't found much to prefer it to xbox. FFXIII was one of the few games I plumped for PS3 version as it was demonstrably better suited, but must multi platformers come out better on xbox it seems

plus the network infrastructure for online gaming seems much more robust on xbox (and that includes pre-sony network broohaha of last 2 months)

MW2 was SO disappointing. Having been blown away by the first MW, and having had the second on order for months pre release, I was pretty shocked at the lack of progress. Rubbish, living on the brand. Battlefield Bad Company 2 utterly sh*ts on it.

While the MW series staggers on with it's old graphics engine, Battlefield 3 is totally fresh.

I defy anyone to watch this trailer and not gasp with unbridled awe.

Finished Portal 2 at the weekend (not a long game I know, but I don't get as much gaming time these days)

When I started the game I loved it, and by the end I loved it even more

Proper laugh out loud funny all the way through, some disturbing areas which hint at a bigger world, IMMENSLEY satisfying puzzles - this game had them all

It's not perfection, but of all the things I buy in small plastic boxes (cds, dvds, games) it stands as the best I've bought in years.

Have youplayed portal 1? You can download it for 800 points on xbox live. You don't NEED to but you can at least try the demo and see if the mechanic works for you. (NB: it didn't click with me for months and it just sat there annoying me as everyone else in the world raved about it)

I think #2 is more newbie friendly tho... I would lend you mine but I'm looking to do the co-op puzzles with someone next

I'll happily do Dragon Age borrowage, Bioware games are usually a pretty good bet.

I'm going to do the same with LA Noire.

Will be getting Eden, is it out yet as it goes, I notice there are already reviews out there?

Othert than that don't see anything coming I'm excited about which is sad. I might have to finish my old deus ex 2. (fiver from steam)

In a slight game related aside, I'm reading a history book about the struggle between the Medici and the Pazzi in Renaissance Florence. I wished I'd read it before playing Assassin's Creed II, seems a lot of the seemingly bonkers plot is grounded i quite a bit of historical truth (minus the templars and building leaping of course)

Have you finished AC2 yet? That's a game that I do quite like, but get bored of quite quickly, and have to come back to.

I used to be the type who would never move on to another game until I'd finished one, but have about 5 on the go now.

Piers, I'll give dragon age a go this week, as I've only had one quick session with it, but if I'm not getting on with it, you're welcome to see how you get on.

I need one last push on AC2. I've pretty much collected everything apart from all the feathers, and I'm moving to the denoument. It has got to that doing the same thing time after time stage which is why i needed a break from it. In all fairness it took a lot longer to get that than with other games.

Even the marvellous Bioshock I got bored with half way through.

    • Admin, please move this if it's in the wrong section. Can anybody recommend a reasonably local dietician (or possibly nutritionist? Not sure what the difference is). My GP has suggested I see a dietician, but there isn't one attached to the practice. I have googled, but it's very hard to tell what people may be like from an online description, and I want somebody who is properly qualified. Alternatively, please PM me if you know of people I should avoid! Thanks x

    • If you look at the application linked to in the OP, you'll see it's a Licensing Act 2003 one, in this case for the purposes of sale by retail of alcohol and for the provision of late night refreshment: "TAKEAWAY COFFEE/ HOT SNACKS 2300-0100". IF the shop counts as a Hot Food Takeaway, then section P48 of the Southwark Plan https://www.southwark.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2024-09/Southwark Plan 2022 reduced 1.pdf , which appears to be the latest one linked to on Southwark's site, will I presume be applied in any  planning application (Is there one?). It says: "New hot food takeaways will only be permitted where: ..... 3. The proposed location is further than 400 metres from any existing or proposed primary or secondary school’s boundary; ....." It incorporates  policy laid down in the National Planning Policy Framework, and thence the London Plan.  Over the years KFC, and others, have taken a  number of appeals against local planning authority decisions on Takeaways to the Planning Inspectorate.  Some have been allowed.  KFCs 'commentary on evidence contained in London Plan Topic Paper: Hot Food Takeaways', https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/nlp_ad_91.pdf may be of interest to some. I'm guessing it's referring to https://www.london.gov.uk/sites/default/files/london_plan_topic_paper_on_hot_food_takeaways.pdf of 2018, but haven't yet checked.
