StraferJack
I was surprised by how much I didn't get on with Skyrim. I know I've said it all before but I played Oblivion to death, and objectively Skyrim improves on pretty much everything in that game. But it leaves me coldHaving finished the Other Big Games I have returned to it a few times and just float around for a bit. Literally. That's one of my problems with the elder Scrolls games is how floaty everything is. Combat especiallyI know it sounds like I'm trying to poo poo other people's opinion of the game and I'm really not. It's just surprising to me how much my tastes have changed between Oblivion game and Skyrim Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/52/#findComment-672868 Share on other sites
El Pibe
"But [skyrim] leaves me cold"pun intended?on the geek front i had a few pints at lunch time and afterward was musing something about people's flaws being our APIs. So maybe I win the geek contest. Otta
I've said before, I kind of feel the same, but I don't think I've given Skyrim enough time to really draw me in.Thing is, Oblivion had that wow factor, when you saw just how big it was, and how great the world looked. Skyrim has improved on that, but you expect it, so it doesn't bowl you over like Oblivion did.Dragons are always a point scorer though.I did pretty much everything in Oblivion, and some DLC, but haven't even started the shimmering isles, so could even still go back to that one day... Otta
What I want is a huge game like the elder scrolls set in modern day London! Not gonna happen yet, but I want to explore without having to go anywhere. StraferJack
Shimmering Isles was easily the best of the DLC for Oblivion - very different atmosphere Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/52/#findComment-672895 Share on other sites
Otta
I rather liked the Knights one. Can't remember what it was called, but quite fun. Isn't shimmering isles massive? StraferJack
also, if you haven't played oblivion for a couple of years, brace yourself. Otta
I was looking at that game too, but haven't taken the plunge as yet...Anyone playing GTA5? I've done a couple of hours, and am liking the look of it so far. Waaaay better than 4, which I could just never get a feel for with it's clunky gameplay. ratty
I am playing GTA V and am about half way through. Way more playable than 4 with brilliant missions. Love having three characters to play. Only drawback is that I can only play when there are no kids about becuase of the language and frequent use of N word! Floating Onion
I'm playing it as well. Really enjoying it. I get some strange looks from Mrs. Onion for the language, or just bursting out laughing at some of the dialogue. Some of the commentary is very entertaining.I've played a bit of the online. A bit of a grind in some way, but so many things you can do. Overall though it seems to have lost a bit of the chaos of multiplayer on 4. StraferJack
same as Otta/Ratty with GTA VThe vast open countryside in Los Santos (incl Mount Chilead) makes a great place to just go and chill out Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/1522-gaming-room-its-a-geeks-paradise/page/52/#findComment-689248 Share on other sites
Otta
I've not gotten round to exploring yet, but plan on a hike up the mountain at some point. Gameplay time is very limited due to kids though, and by the time they're in bed I often don't even have the energy / motivation left to turn on a game console, I just sit there staring blankly at the telly. Floating Onion
Don't worry, eventually the missions drag you around large chunks of the country side in fun ways. Otta
Recommendations wanted.Mrs Otta has said she might like to get herself a game for the xbox, but I don't know what to recommend because I'm not in to her kind of thang. Basically she really liked Pikmin on the old Nintendo, and she probably likes the likes of Sim City.Anyone got any recommendations for games like that? I thought about Sims 3, but not sure she'd dig that. Otta
Don't kike that blocky thang. And she was a bit "what's the point" when she saw it on telly. Don't think she'll be interested in building a house for a character, which is why I'm not convinced by sims.Is there anything like pikmin?
